truthfully i didnt even read your post because i know you are a homer from experience of reading your posts in the mlb forum.

I wouldn't expect you to read it. It must get old being proven wrong every time you bring up a subject.

As far as Redman, he has been playing just fine since he has taken over. On a team with no consistency in the run game he put up 1070 yards and 10 touchdowns (5 INTs) with a 60% completion (6 games). He only bad game was the Tampa game, but our entire offense was getting man handled that day.

I'm not saying he's the answer, but he isn't close to our greatest problem. We need a running game and a defense before we need some prolific passing attack.

Indeed. But don't expect livestrong to know anything about that.

The Chris Redman of Week 17 looked freakishly like a Mike Martz style QB. Of course the opponent stopped playing at halftime...

Wherever Martz winds up, I think he has learned his offense is predicated on protecting the QB. That didn't happen reliably in Detroit and it's what ultimately ruined him there.

Um, you obviously don't read my posts then. I'm the biggest Falcons critic on these forums. (well, second to Lakeshow) Just don't speak blindly in the future and there won't be anymore problems.

A small surprise that Jim Coletto got the OC job, Kippy Brown got promoted to Asst. Head Coach.

Coletto was the Ohio State OC for much of the Cooper era--think great offenses led by crappy-but-strong-armed QBs and some of the best OLs CFB has ever seen. IIRC he got that job because Robert Smith ratted out his predecessor for forcing him to cut class to practice.

Checking back in a few months later...

Martz is now the OC in San Francisco. Let's review the offense in SF:
QB is a battle between Shaun Hill and Alex Smith. Smith is far too inaccurate and panicky to run a Martz offense, even if MM tones it down. Hill has the accuracy but he can't get the ball down the field. He's a smart checkdown QB with no mobility.

The OL is in flux. Joe Staley is moving to LT, and I think he will eventually be fine. But Martz requires his LT to block on an island with no help on almost every play. I consider Joe Staley a friend, but even Joe will tell you they are asking him to do things he's never done before, and at an extremely high level. If he is as good as Jeff Backus was in DET the last two years it's probably a success, and Detroit fans want Jeff Backus hanging from the goalposts by his testes. They are okay at G-C-G, nothing special but as good as what MM has in Detroit. They're trying an immobile rookie G (Chilo Rachal) at RT because Jonas Jennings is consistently lousy. Ask any Lions fan about how a Martz offense works with a subpar RT...

WR will be improved. Bryant Johnson should be a great fit in the MM offense, though he does get alligator arms when the safety is closing quickly. Isaac Bruce can still contribute and mentor as well. Arnaz Battle could thrive as the Furrey-type drag route guy. I like Jason Hill but he has one career catch; Josh Morgan is running as the #4 and he's a rookie who has poor acceleration off the line, which is a death knell for Martz. Ashley Leile is very fast and nothing else and I expect him to get cut.

I read all these fantasy predictions where Vernon Davis is going to explode under Martz. I would argue the exact opposite--I don't see how he'll stay on the field. MM demands absolute perfection in route running and 100% mental concentration on every snap, every detail. That sound like Vernon Davis to anyone? Didn't think so. They're trying him as a slot WR in the 4-wide set and I could see how Davis will get some nice matchups, but he still has to catch the ball. Assuming it clicks early for Davis, that he stops pouting and starts listening, starts looking the ball in and stops worrying about where he's going to run, even with that I don't see more than 60 catches for 700 yards and 3-4 TDs. That's Owen Daniels territory, not Gates or K2 turf. Don't forget Martz loves to try the unconventional in the Red Zone, throwing fades to Shaun McDonald instead of Roy Williams or the Kitna QB draw on 3rd & Goal from the 7.

Good luck Niners fans, you're going to need it!
