Well, other than Wilt. (what, you think he was telling the truth?)

Expanding on the pick:

We've been looking at centers for the last several rounds but couldn't justify selecting one over the players we picked. We really like Campbell's value at this pick because he is a multi-dimensional player. Other centers had certain attributes we liked, but Elden is pretty good at everything. He was pretty highly regarded in the mid-90's, leading to big extension with the Lakers before they signed Shaq. Filling in for Shaq during an injury, Campbell averaged 26.5/11.8 during a four game stretch when they were feeding him the ball like Shaq. This is not to suggest that he will post those numbers, but it shows that he is capable of having very big games as an offensive option.

Campbell is also simply a very big player. ESPN and Wikipedia list him at 7'0/279 while BBR lists him at his college weight of 215. He played very good playoff defense against Shaq as a member of the Pistons in '04 and '05 as the Pistons beat the Lakers and then the Heat. He gives us someone who can challenge the great centers on both ends of the floor.

Ultimately, Campbell is somewhat of a maddening player. He had the ability to be better than he was on average, but he was still great at times. To us, '95 Campbell is a great value at this pick and we really like his fit next to Malone.

well its been over 8 hours and people are telling me to pick, so I select

Hersey Hawkins

14.3 ppg, .482 FG%, .44 3pt %, 3.8 reb, 3.2 assts, 1.5 steals

Hersey was a personal favorite of mine when he was a Sixer. He was a solid defender that could flat out shoot the rock (44% from 3 in 94/95).

Shawn Bradley. Our gamble pays off, we'd hoped he'd fall to us here, he rounds out our starting 5 quite nicely.

I'll take the risk everyone's been afraid of. With my first selection, I'll take Derrick Coleman.

Image

He's inefficient and was lazy. But he's the most talented player on the board and I believe with Dikembe and my team defense overall, I can mask his weaknesses. My offense is already pretty lethal, but I really need a guy who can just punch it in the post and score from mid-range. His rebounding is also very good, he's a solid shotblocker and we all know the talent level of this guy.

With my second pick, I'll take Charles Oakley. Part of the risk in having a guy like Coleman is that you need to have someone pushing him. Oak is one of the toughest competitors to ever play the game and is a great defender. You need that type of toughness off the bench to win basketball games in a league this competitive.

The Boned Samuels will select Otis Thorpe

13.4 ppg, .565 FG%, 8 reb

Otis brings a RING and veteran experience to my young team. He is ultra efficient and a solid rebounder and a pretty good defender, plus like Laettner has logged minutes at C

Re: Build a Team 1994-95 Draft thread Round 6 Free for All 4EST

Post#98 » by Snakebites » Thu Apr 22, 2010 5:48 pm

Okay, let me explain the round 6 free for all in this thread:

Starting at 4 EST, there will be a free for all for the 6th round. You can claim any player who hasn't been claimed yet at that point. Once you have claimed 1 player, you must wait until the next free for all which will begin at a similar time tomorrow.

Sam Bone, Bryant, and nba_addict already have 6th round picks, so they must wait until the next round of free for all to make any selections.

Since Blackice timed out on his pick presumably by now, can I sneak my pick that I PM'd you yesterday in under the wire too Snake?

Note: Still suggest you start it with round 7 instead because some people may not check in by 4EST . . . that will put everyone on the same footing.
