2010 Official Draft Day Thread

Post#1 » by Danny Darko » Wed Apr 21, 2010 5:11 pm

Here's my 'Hawk predraft hopeful mock:

6.Okung falls to us.

14. We trade with a 4th for a 2nd this year and 1st next year as ammo for locker.
2nd to be determined before 60 via trade for #14- Best, Gerhard, Dunlap, Price, Iupati (basically a slider of need or talent)

60. Best Safely or surprisingly available G/WR

4th rounder- LaGarette Blount

I figure this deserves to be split into its own thread. My prediction?

6. Trent Williams
14. Jimmy Claussen

I also tend to agree with the idea of picking a safety in the second round due to the depth of the class.

As some of you know, I'm actually going to the NFL draft. I leave in about 7 hours. I've started a blog where I'll be posting pictures and blogging about every 7 picks or so. On the right you'll see my twitter where I'll be doing quick comments about each pick as well.

Right now I published my first mock draft.

I saw you had Bryant falling to us at #14, which I've now seen in a couple of places. It's an interesting thought, and if it happens I find the prospect of it somewhat exciting. I'd be plenty happy with drafting two skill position players [QB, WR] in the first round, then fleshing out line depth in the latter rounds.

I'm not completely sold on the idea that the 'Hawks will draft an OL in the first round. I think Gibbs is pretty particular, and if Williams [aka someone mentioned as a good zone blocking fit] isn't there, I don't see them drafting a power blocker just because he's BPA or reaching for a good ZBS fit that doesn't fit the salary slot.

I agree Sweezo. I don't think we'll take an OL in the first round. I really want Eric Berry and Dez Bryant in the first. I think that'd be two dynamic play makers right away.

Hey guys. How all you be? Haven't been around much.

My wishes for the draft in the first 2 rounds:

6th Pick: Ohkung/Williams (NEED LT. Might be okay with Berry here. He does sound special)

14th pick: Spiller/Clausen (If we do pick Berry, I sure do hope a solid OT falls here)

60th pick: A safety (if we don't pick Berry) or WR or CB or DL or RB (if we don't pick Spiller) Basically, best available talent that falls here amongst these)

We'll see what happens.

word em up lads. glad to see the draft thread and the activity buzzing.

I'm really interested to see what a draft day visit is like Heavy. Please give us the level of excitement, boardom, and anything else worth noting. I'm stoked you'll be our insider. I'm gonna do an analysis of your picks shortly.

So thoughts on other teams-

I feel like Holmy is bluffing and really wants Jimmy. I felt that way before Clausen was quoted as saying Holmgren said he'd have to put a spin on their excellent meeting, and maybe it's the old double bluff, but I think they go Clausen against conventional MH QB draft philosophy.

I think Iupati may slide with the emergence of Pouncey and Saffold (too bad we won't be around to take advantage) unless we go with an Eagles trade scenario.

Al UndeadZombie Davis will have name love and go with Anthony Davis, or possibly trade for Big Ben and then grab Mays later.

Back to us- I hope someone buys the hype about right tackle Trent Williams. I will stick to something I said early. In the last few drafts the OL have been picked right early and got hypier and hypier near the draft until lamer picks ruled the day. Let's call this the Oher rule. Trent was an early favorite, though and I'm just plain not sold on the guy. My current LT board:

1-Okung
2-Davis
3-Bulaga
4-Williams
5-Brown
6-Saffold
7-Campbell

Heavy-

1-6 I basically agree with, but I like you would be sad with Trent and think he's a RT. Chiefs to me are a wild card and hard to pick for.

7,8- look like we fully agree

11-I think Bryant after having Rolando here for days too for Denver.

60- I see you like Gerhart too. It's kinda funny that there seems to be some racism going on with him being a white hb. Still I can't point to one freaking hb worth their salt in a decade that was white, other than the hybrid Mike Allstott

What I'd like to see:
6-Berry
14-Trade down and take Alex Gibbs' favorite LT
60-Gerhart

What I think will happen? I really don't know. Honestly, my expectations have been so lowered this offseason that I'd just about be happy as long as we don't come out of the first round with Taylor Mays and Tim Tebow.

If [and it's a big "if"] the 'Hawks draft an OL in the first round...I don't think I'll wring my hands about it much. I can't see the 'Hawks drafting an OL without Gibb's seal of approval, so if they drafted Williams at #6...it would only be because one of the best OL coaches in the history of the game believed he would be a good fit.

There's enough needs on this 'Hawks team that there's not a ton they could do in the first round to genuinely upset. Unless they pick Morgan at #6, that is. Or Mays at either #6 or #14. Or Tebow with...anything.

Speaking of which, anyone see Carroll is tweeting song selections that supposedly hint about who the 'Hawks will be drafting? Seahawk Addicts seems to think the code's been cracked by a guy on the Bleacher Report, and honestly...I can't disagree with the logic. If true, a few things:

1. Mays sucks.
2. Remember wondering whether we got locked in on Whitehurst and overpaid because of tunnel vision? Drafting Mays in the first round would be the same thing.
3. if Pete Carroll ever invites you over to his house to play poker, do it. You'll come home a rich man.

I hope Carroll is just messing around [which would be awesome...i approve of messing with people's heads] but I don't know...

The hidden song message thing is ridiculous, in the best possible sense. It's like searching for "Paul is dead" clues (or maybe I'm the only one here who's old enough for that?).

If he tweets "We Are Family" then I guess the Seahawks are drafting Tony Washington.

One of the cooler documentaries I've ever seen was one about the "Paul is dead" phenomenon.

Got my wish... no Williams...

So far predictable until Washington and they just relieved my worry by grabbing Trent.

If Gibbs thinks Okung will fit, then he'll fit.
