Official Day Two Thread

Post#1 » by MikeIsGood » Fri Apr 23, 2010 5:05 am

The other thread is, unsurprisingly, loaded. How about a fresh slate for rounds two and three?

Let's start things out with who you want to target in the second and third rounds. Trade up for someone still on the board if we get the opportunity?

BPA obviously, but i'm hoping a good OLB falls to us in the 2nd. Also, i'm hoping the Queens don't take a QB, but if they do the silver lining will be BrINT being pissed.

What is everyone's thoughts of only having the 1st round tonight? I hated it, as soon as the 1st was over I was ready for the 2nd to start. I wish they'd go back to the weekend schedule.

As is probably evident by my desire to trade back into round one for Hughes, I want an OLB also. I was against Kindle in the first - and I really thought talk of him to Miami at 12 was funny - but in the second it would be a different story and I'd take a chance on him there. No chance in hell he'd fall to us, depending on the price I could maybe get on board with trading up for him. If not, I'm hoping one of the other guys falls to us. We really need to bolster our OLB rotation IMO. Well, in a lot of our opinions. I know many of us think the same thing.

I' m kind of hoping TT changes his philosophy and trades some of his lower picks to acquire another second round pick. I'd sure like to get both a db and a linebacker in the second round.

CB murphy and cook are still there as is S Mays

OLB kindle is there.

DE krindle and Dunlap are both there.

I think i'd pass on McCoy and Clausen. We don't really need a young Qb to hold a clip board for another 3 years.

My personal choice would be Mays. i doubt he'll still be there when we pick. That's why i'd love to see us move up in the second, and also try to acquire another second round pick. But i' m smart enough to realize our chances of moving up in the second round are close to nill, and our chances of having two second round picks with TT's philosophy of trading down are even less than nill.

Using the draft value chart, trading our 2nd and 3rd rounder would net us the 40th pick.

Our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th would get us the 35th.

I'm going to put this in day 2 even though the pick was day 1. Tebow's endless rants about coming in and working hard, following orders, being a leader while not being a very good pro prospect.

Remind you of anyone?

I'm still in shock when I think that Tebow went ahead of Clausen and McCoy.

I love the 2nd and 3rd rounds. My favorite two of the draft.

I made a list of a lot of guys who might fit. There's a lot.

I still wouldn't mind us taking another one of the G/T prospects that are hanging around. I certainly wouldn't mind Brown or Saffold. If we take one of those guys, I think we could have our offensive line set now and far into the future with Bulaga/Lang/Spitz/Sitton/2nd rounder.

That being said, OLB is obviously a need, as is safety and I guess corner... Though I still do not think corner is nearly as big of a need as most.

How far is Everson Griffen going to fall? I'd definitely take him with our 2nd if he fell that far.

I'd take Charles Brown, Saffold, or Bruce Campbell.

For OLB I like Ricky Sapp, Kindle if we could somehow trade up.

I like Nate Allen the safety from South Florida as well.

Who do you think is all left? Brown, Saffold, Campbell, Duccasse (sp?) and Veldeheer (Sp?).

I also agree with Luke23 that Kindle and Sapp would be excellent additions.

I hope we stick to the O-line or turn out attention to OLB in the second round. Then I hope we target a safety or O-Line/OLB (whichever one we didn't get in 2) in round 3.

Looking at the board, I agree. I think OLB/OL here in the 2nd. Would love a DB, but don't know if the value is there. Take that Ansah dude in round 3.

Who do you guys see as the best pass rusher still available? Either DE or OLB.

That's who I'd want.

Asamoah, Mike Johnson and John Jerry are also around. I like Mitch Petrus quite a bit too.

Are there any really good safeties left, DB?

I am of the opinion safety is a much bigger need than corner.

Morgan Burnett is the guy I like. Nate Allen is also out there. Chad Jones has first round talent but he tested a little slower than people thought he would, but I'd also love to bring him in. Reshad Jones is more of a 3rd or 4th round guy, but he's an option.

Hopefully we end up with one of those guys in the 3rd or 4th. I really like Nick Collins and Bigby is solid... But I think the primary reason we got tore by Arizona is that when Bigby went out, they just wrecked us over the middle of the field.

Speaking of safeties, I'm so tempted to take a victory lap at Football's Future's Packer Board. I've been over there for four years or so but I rarely post. But one thing I couldn't help comment on is Mays. If you ever wanted to see an example of group think, Mays and that board is Exhibit A. That board loves him. Their (inexplicably) well respected "experts" on the board regard him as top five/elite/future stud. I couldn't understand how any of them thought he was a first round safety and said as much.

BUT HE PHYSICALLY LOOKS LIKE A SAFETY!!

I think they put too much stock in how these picks will presumably be rated in Madden, and Mays would be a fun one to plug in there (I think, I haven't played madden since the Ps2 glory days)

Not to say I am a Taylor Mays fan... But if he slips all the way to our second rounder and we take him, I wouldn't be all that upset with the swing for the fences type pick. :D
