Undrafted Free Agents
A few moves have already been made by the Jets.
Donovan Warren, Safety from University of Michigan

Anyone know why Warren wasn't drafted? It couldn't just be his slow 40. Either way, we've got great CB depth considering what we had going into Thursday night.
Charlie Tanner, Offensive Guard from University of Texas

http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/ ... l_sig.html
Jeff Cumberland, Tight End from University of Illinois
http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/04/24/j ... nd-tanner/
Kevin Basped, Defensive End from University of Nevada
http://www.ganggreennation.com/2010/4/2 ... vin-basped
Basped is listed at 6'6, 240. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a LB.

Re: Draft: 8th Round
I heard he dropped because of injury and whilst running the 40, he was still injured, I think there was a sense of whether he'll get his explosiveness back because of his injury. But, I like his technique with his hips especially when he's back-peddling and can REALLY close down quickly, he has decent size and can man-up, needs to get better at zone-coverage if he's going to be switched to safety, he can also get easily juked by opposing WRs or RBs, could also work on his hands a bit more. IMO this is a steal.

The coverage on Golden Tate at around 1:55 is something that I really liked about him.
Tanner, could be a diamond in the rough for us, he's two-year starter at Texas, he's a wrestler and he's working with Bill Callahan. This could turn out like Slauson. Here's his scouting report:
PRO DAY RESULTS: 79 scouts and coaches representing 30 teams (the Rams and Lions were the only two not represented), including three head coaches, came together to watch. G Charlie Tanner (6-3 7/8, 305) ran 5.20 and 5.12 in the 40. Tanner posted a 36-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump and a 4.38-second short shuttle all numbers that would have put him in the top-10 amongst offensive linemen at the combine. His vertical jump would have beaten out Oklahoma T Trent Williams' top mark of 34 1/2 inches, while his 4.38-second short shuttle would have shattered the best mark at the combine a time of 4.51 second set by Arizona State OL Shawn Lauvao. Combined with a 5.20 and 5.12 in the 40, Tanner certainly helped his stock Wednesday. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
Cumberland is just there for depth IMO, I'd be surprised if they somehow make it past the practice squad when season starts.
Basped intrigues me, he seems like a project to me, I'm hoping working under Jason Taylor will help him out a bit but he'd start at the practice squad, he also has a dodgy knee apparently. Here's a scouting report:

Out of the lot, Warren is pretty much the only one I have high hopes for, and I'm actually going to root for him to at least make it to the special teams.
We also signed Mick Williams from Pittsburgh, look a bit like DeVito, which I'm fine with, I love Devito's hustle and heart!

I think with the top 2 we're just trying to find a linemen who could possibly break into at least 3rd stringer, we need depth and we're trying to get lucky that one of these guys may end contributing this season
Reamer I hear is a very good ST
The rest, lucky to break the practice squad.

Re: Draft: 8th Round
What was Warren projected to be in the draft?
Is it possible we have our replacement for Rhodes and starter for Poole?

I think most expected that his stock would take a hit from his poor 40 numbers during both the combine and scout day and that he could turn into a 3rd day steal for some team. So considering the Jets got him as a UFA I'd say that that qualifies as a steal.
Regarding his poor 40 numbers...
"Donovan Warren had no intention of running for NFL scouts at Michigan’s pro day, but his competitive nature got the best of him.
Still bothered by a right ankle injury that caused him to pull out of the NFL combine last month, Warren borrowed a pair of teammate Stevie Brown’s cleats Friday and said he clocked two 40-yard dashes in the mid-4.5 range.
Warren ran a disappointing 40 at the combine after spraining the same ankle he originally hurt as a sophomore during a February workout.
Donovan Warren, shown last season playing for Michigan, worked out for NFL scouts at Michigan's pro day on Friday. (File photo)
“I was just going to come and meet with the scouts, just the competitor in me just came out,” Warren said. “Saw the workout and decided I was going to try to go at it.” "
Have to like his competitiveness even though it looks like that it could have actually hurt his stock like nobody's business. He was injured for both 40's (combine and pro day) and still came out and ran registering low 4.6's and high 4.5's.

It's not bad that he still ran, and wasn't bad timing for an ankle injury especially.

Signed with the Redskins, not with the Jets after Washington made him a better offer.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

Re: Draft: 8th Round
Keith Buckman traded a tuxedo for a New York Jets jersey this weekend.
Buckman, an undrafted free agent guard from North Dakota State, was supposed to serve as a groomsman in his brother's wedding Saturday. Instead, he took a shot at his NFL dream by participating in the Jets' rookie minicamp.
"It was pretty easy," Buckman said of his decision. "I mean, I told him and stuff, and he understood. He's just as happy for me today as I am for him tonight. It wasn't that hard. I wish I were there, but I'd rather be here, to be honest with you."
The youngest of Buckman's four brothers, Matthew, was with him when the draft ended last Saturday. That's when the Jets called Buckman, telling him they wanted to sign him as an undrafted free agent.
"When we found out, he just said, 'Good luck,'" Buckman said of his brother. "He was happy for me. He was excited for me, and I think he kind of forgot about his wedding a little bit."
Even Buckman's future sister-in-law, Heather Thomas, understood his decision to miss the wedding in Dickinson, N.D.
"She's cool," Buckman said with a big smile. "She doesn't care."
Buckman, who's married, had his tux fitted and ready to go. He said his brother wouldn't replace him in the wedding party, though, leaving the spot at the altar open in his honor.
"We had kind of already talked about it with my agent, and he told us that most of the camps are this weekend," Buckman said, "so we kind of knew that if I had a chance, I'd be gone for that weekend."
Buckman, who's 6-foot-5 and 321 pounds, was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as a guard after switching from offensive tackle before his senior season.
"It was a lot tougher than I thought it would be, just coming out from the outside edge and coming inside," he said. "I just adjusted to it and I think it worked out well." Buckman started 33 of 44 games at North Dakota State after working his way into the offensive line rotation as a redshirt freshman. The Jets are looking at Buckman mostly at the two guard positions.
"It's been tough," Buckman said. "It's way different from what I've been used to. The biggest thing has been learning the offense. That's probably the worst thing right now when you go out there and you don't know what you're doing and you're trying to play fast and go hard. I just have to keep getting in the playbook."
When Buckman signed with the Jets last weekend, it was big news in his hometown of Belfield, N.D., which has a population of about 800. The Dickinson Press reported that Buckman became the first person from the town to become a professional athlete after also being its first Division I athlete.
"I've got a lot of friends and family behind me," Buckman said. "Everyday, I get texts from people, and everybody's been really supportive. I'm doing this for myself, but also for a whole community, too. The day I got picked up as a free agent, I bet there were about 40 people that stopped by."
Buckman thought about his brother when he woke up Saturday morning, but decided against calling him because it was 3:30 a.m. in North Dakota. So he waited awhile and texted him between practices to make sure he was keeping his nerves in check leading up to the wedding.
"I'm sure when we all get back," a grinning Buckman said, "we'll all celebrate."
