Racism On The Raps Forum

Post#1 » by Italia Raps Fan » Sat Apr 24, 2010 10:37 pm

I just want to ask why is there such a tolerance for racism on that forum? The topic came up and many members there pointed out the racism that exists in that forum. Out of this, one of the mods got very confrontational and angry and denied there was any racism.

Could I get some clarification on why racism is so strongly tolerated here?

The mods have more important things to do than deal with racism.

For reference: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1005255&start=180

IRF, I can see see why you are upset about the thread. There are some ridiculous things in it. However, I think you are blowing this out of proportion. Alfred is a pretty level headed and fair mod in general. I assume you are refering to the post that began with "i am the moderator". In that post he said that Ripp didn't say anything racist. Which I would tend to agree with. That doesn't mean that nothing in the thread was racist, he said that string of 4 posts wasn't. In fact, it was mostly just challenging your credentials.

From experience, just because you do not see moderator action, does not mean there wasn't any. I am sure that there was at least one warning sent out regarding this issue.

Anyway, I hope that helps.

On a brighter note, it's one of the few threads that hasn't been locked.

Let me start out by saying that in my mind, it is not clear whether the title of the thread, nor the thread starter himself mentioned that all European players being a certain way. In fact, the idea behind the thread, I assume, was to clarify that he did not want more soft players on the team.

While it may be contentious whether the thread should have been left open, what is not up for debate is whether what Ripp said was racist. It was not.

Your attempt to paint him as a racist was unwarranted, and I said as much.

Furthermore, the idea that the NBA is racist against white people is one of the most insane things I have ever heard in my life. I'm sorry if that makes you think that I'm a racist, but fortunately, it does not.

+1, on all counts.

Calling people racist is a pretty serious accusation, and one that the OP tossed around in that thread without basis. Ripp didn't do anything in that thread to warrant that treatment, and I think Alfred handled it perfectly.
