It's actually from the book Lost Horizon, where Shangri-La is a mythical utopia whose people live forever in paradise. But nowadays it's used as another word for the Garden of Eden.

If you guy's do get Beasley to maximize his potential he would have to be the first option and the franchise player like Garnett, unless you get John wall in which case he'll be the man. Actually Beasley is better than Garnett offensively, he's just not as smart as him. Also I'm not sure how he'll play in the triangle offense, but can you imagine a Wall/Beasley duo? scary.

The franchise that is build around 1st option Michael Beasley will not have much success, sorry. They might reach the playoffs a couple of times but Beasley is mentally not able to lead a team to a championship.

I agree he'd need to start, but he's not a 1st option. At least not until he learns he needs to drive it more. The difference between the way he played in college and the way he plays in the NBA, and the amount of jumpshots he takes now, is incredible. But he would be a better option for a running offence then either Love or Jefferson and while he doesn't put in a consistent effort he's got a better chance of guarding perimeter forwards then either of them.

But I think he's getting mismanaged in Miami. I understand the importance of stressing defence, especially for that team, but he gets yanked every chance they can and it would screw with anyone. Coming to an organization like this that focuses on development could be the best thing for his career.

If we were to start Beasley, Flynn, Jefferson; the problem I see is that we would be setting in stone the fact we'd have to put up 140 a night for any chance to win. Defense will not be a burden on his shoulders. Sadly, I think Beasley is a step down defensively from the Gomes/Sasha/Wilkins platoon. His rebounding is iffy, but Love/Jefferson can cover that up easily.

Offensively if he can relearn to create his own shot, there is no reason he couldn't be handed the keys and be a 25ppg+ scorer. Don't let him watch porn while he drinks and drives and he'll be back to hero status.

This is really random but going back to this...
MIN GETS: Beasley, Cook, Jones, 18th pick

MIA GETS: Cap Space...(maybe Gomes or 23) 2nd round

WHY MIN: Beasley has potential and has a team option after this season. Jones has a team option after this season. Cook under contract for 1.3 million tell after 2011 season. Finally the 18 pick may make it easier for us to trade 16+4 for 2(Turner).

WHY MIA: No players under contract except if resign Wade + free agents. Gomes can be waived...

Kinda random but i thought it was interesting that we could only walk away with Cook and 18 after next season plus easier to trade for Turner. And next year wont matter + Beasley does have talent. And we don't loose Jefferson and Love who could be used for something else.

What exactly is "token" Beasley? If its anything like "Tokin" Beasley, I'm not sure he's a good fit.

Rumor that had Beasley to Nets for Dooling make it seem like they're trying to clear space for a 3rd big free agent. If thats true maybe the Heat would go for something like Gomes for Beasley/#18 as the base.

More:

The Nets have rejected a trade offer from the Heat that would have sent forward Michael Beasley to New Jersey for guard Keyon Dooling, according to ESPN's Ryen Russillo.

Miami doesn't consider Beasley a part of their future anymore and is even looking at lopsided trades in an effort to clear additional cap space.

Beasley for Dooling straight up doesn't work under the cap, now or after 7/1, which pokes a hole in the rumor.
They would have to send another smaller contract, and CDR, Terrence Williams, and Courtney Lee are the only small tradeable deals they have right now. Dooling's deal is like Gomes', but more appealing because he is only guaranteed 500k and not 2.75 mil over 3 years.

We have an advantage over them until July 1st, because gomes/beasley works straight up, but Washington can give them a better deal because they can absorb him outright with their large trade exception.

I would consider gomes/ellington for beasley/cook/18/owed TOR pick, but James Jones is a giant NO because of his big trade kicker, he is owed over 8 million guaranteed over 3 years if traded.

They're both under the cap, they shouldn't have to match salaries.

Yeah the 2nd part of my statement was wrong.
Beasley for Dooling straight up doesn't work until 7/8.
They're both over the cap until the new cap year (7/8).

I'm assuming the whole reason for Miami making that offer now is to have more room when the "summit" is held with the big FA's, and not having to execute deals to clear cap room once the frenzy starts.

If they wait until 7/8 to trade beasley, it's much more likely they'd just send him in a S&T or dump him outright to the clips or wiz. When they will have more suitors who can offer raw cap space, unlike now when it's basically us and the wiz.

2010 cap space created by super-expirings like gomes and dooling is slightly more valuable now than raw space after 7/8, because FA's are going to start negotiating on 7/1 and making their plans on the cap numbers as of that date. Trying to sell a guy on signing with your team when you can't guarantee you'll be able to create the necessary cap room is alot harder than if you have it readily available.
