It wasn't about Butler's defense. Jefferson's game doesn't translate into our halfcourt offense. The ball always goes to either Tim, Manu, or Tony. Jefferson is not included. That's why when the defense is set, Jefferson runs into the corner while Tony or Manu make plays. He's basically just waiting for the 3 pointer. When he gets the ball off a drive from Tony or Manu, that's when he's able to do something. Either shoot the 3, or attack the basket because the defense is scrambled. He can't do this on his own.

That's why I find it hard to fault Jefferson other than saying he's just not a good fit for us. We don't give the ball to Jefferson and make him create. That has to be the coach's decision. But at the same time, do we want Jefferson to be doing things he can't do? Jefferson isn't a good post up player, we don't want him to be doing that. And he doesn't have enough ballhandling skills to go ISO, we don't want him to start doing that either.

If he is really thinking about doing this, i take it as good news for two reasons.

REason number one is obvious to anyone that saw this experiment unfold in front of our eyes all year long.

Reason number two? He is now officially playing for a contract if he's opting out... what better way to lock himself up for a big contract than producing now?

If he's playing for a contract, he might want to play better. He's had one decent game so far. 19 points is what we should be getting from him every game, minimum.

If he doesn't play well, he's not opting out because there's no way he's getting what he wants (4 year 40 mil deal)

If he shows up, play well nd lived up to the billing of that 4th star we've been looking for, he'll opt out. But we can't possibly let him go for nothing if he actually played like a 10 mil per year kind of player.

I can't see how he is worth 10 mil per no matter what. If we pay him that means no money for Tony next year...can't see that happening.

He won't make 15 million the rest of his NBA career. He's not opting out.
