Whatever happened to Greg Oden?
Man, the guys over on portlands board are hating on Greg Oden. It seems he's not traveling with the team. Whats up with him? you think we could put a package together for him? Maybe Marvin and a first and a second? Would we do that? What is he worth on the open market these days. He's a boom or bust player

I'm all for going after Oden with that package if we can get Josh Childress and Joe Johnson back.
Roster when he's healthy:
Bibby / JJ / JSmoove / Al / Oden
Roster when not:
Bibby / JJ / JChil / JSmoove / Al
A package of Marvin, 1st, and 2nd seems reasonable to me AND doable. But I'm in the same boat as I do not know his open market price. I would not think it would be very high. A 2nd pick such as Darko brought in Kelvin Cato and a 1st for Detroit in 2006. Now Oden is better than Darko, but being as injury prone as Oden offsets that for me. I think a simple Marvin for Oden swap is fair.

Childress wants nothing to do with the hawks.
Oden is extremely injury prone. He has played in only 82 games in his 3 year career, out of a possible 246. That is 33% of the games. He has had major injuries to both knees. He is a huge risk.

Some guys are unlucky when it comes to injuries. It's best not to think about acquiring them and just be grateful that someone else has to deal with the misfortune. For instance, the Hawks might have been further along the development curves had we not invested so much in Speedy Claxton. He didn't have value until his contract was expiring because of his injuries.

Watching Zaza pull the chair on Oden earlier in the year was one of my favorite moments of the season.

Re: Whatever happened to Greg Oden?
I thought for sure Oden would be a top tier player in this league. He had the makeup of a very good big, but sadly he has had to endure serious injuries. I just hope Blake Griffin is able to stay healthy too, and that this year was a fluke for him. Greg Oden's last college game against Florida is what really convinced the scouts that he was the next big thing. He flat out dominated Noah and Horford inside with relative ease. We've now seen two drafts recently where the 1-2 picks were debated over and over again prior to the draft, and 1 of the 2 players turned out to make it huge in the pros, while the other player didn't. Howard vs Okafor, and Durant vs Oden. I hate to admit it, but I liked Okafor and Oden in both cases..

From what I've heard he can at least fall back to a porn career if he can't come back from the knee problems to play well in the NBA.

Don't forget Rose/Beasley!!
But yeah...Portland definitely won't give up on Oden before his contract expires, and I really hope that he's able to recover and become the player he was projected to be. I'd love to see these #1 picks pan out, but it seems that #1 picks have been pretty hit or miss in recent years.

Re: Whatever happened to Greg Oden?
I heard it's because he was on the radio interview and said that he didn't watch the regular season games or the playoffs.
Then they thought he wasn't really "down" with the team or something.
Plus, how injury prone he is for now?
