Lakers somewhat comparable to 90s Bulls?

Anyone else see this?

The Bulls were focused on a scoring shooting guard and was the best player in the NBA to many

Michael Jordan.

They had a scoring forward and he was one of the best forwards in the NBA at the time

Scotty Pippen.

Then they had their physical and aggressive defender that helped out on defense not so much on offense

Dennis Rodman.

Now switch the 3 with Kobe, Gasol, and Artest. Am I right? Not to mention they have the same coach. Not many teams can put together 3 solid pieces like these.

Pippen is 6'8" and a Small Forward. How is he a scoring big man who was one of the best bigs in the league? Comparing him to Gasol is absolutely ridiculous. The best low post scorer on that Bulls team was actually Jordan.

I guess you could also make the comparison of Odom and Kukoc. A 6-10 left handed point forward 6th man. Thats a pretty good comparison. Only, Kukoc was a much better shooter and passer and LO is a much better rebounder and defender. The Lakers need to ad some dudes to this squad that could shoot, then you could make some more comparisons. I would love to have a Steve Kerr type player.

Great timing. We just got rolled by the No. 8 seed, and we're getting compared to one of the great dynasties in basketball history?

No way are they compared. Kobe might be compared to MJ. But Pippen was a hell of a ball handler , which Gasol and Artest do not have. Also Pippen without Jordan led his team to the Eastern Conference Finals and without Kobe those others wouldn't be able to do that in my opinion.

Yeah... Bad Timing...

But I think guys are taking the comparison way too literal.
There are similarities and I get what he's saying.

The thing is, a team like the Bulls only comes around very rarely. And I think trying to use the success of such a team as a 'Formula' is a bad idea at best, and incredibly arrogant and short sighted at worse.
So I really hope the similarities are just coincidences or superficial, because if it's a concerted effort to try to recreate that team, I think we're destined for mediocrity.

You have to considder the talent you have first... The unique skillset and personality of you're players and how they react as a team... And THEN you look at how they fit into a particular system...

For the record, I think the Lakers have done a pretty good job of walking that fine line... The only place they might have crossed it was with Artest... But I think it definately is a fine line they're playing with.

The Bulls played much better defense and had a better supporting cast after the 3 stars than the Lakers. And I stated somewhat comparable.

OK, I'll be more specific.

Jordan and Bryant are similar. After that, the pairings couldn't be any more different.

Other than their passing skills, Gasol and Pippen don't resemble each other in any way, shape or form. You've got a 7-foot forward/center, whose primary skill is low-post offense, and one of the most versatile SFs in history. Totally, totally different players.

Same thing with Rodman and Artest. One was a dominant rebounder and low-post defender, while the other is a spot-up shooter and perimeter defender.

So these teams aren't even remotely comparable, not even on a superficial level.

The only thing these Lakers have in common with the 90's Bulls is the coach.

Those Bulls played defense and shut people down. Sadly, our Lakers hardly play defense.

The Bulls had a superstar at the prime of his game. Kobe is playing no where near his prime.

Those Bulls had a solid bench that played team ball and was able to protect their leads. Our bench is more interested in padding their own stats.

I can go on and on......
