He's listed at like 285. That would be the world's biggest rush OLB ever.

I know. He looks like he could shed 20 lbs. He's super light on his feet for his size.

I'm interested to hear how MM and Capers plan on using him. For being listed at 290, he sure doesn't look that big, at least to me anyways. Definitely looks to have a pretty good motor when it comes to rushing the passer, just wonder if they think he can do it standing up.

We almost signed Peppers to play OLB and he's that size.

If he pleads guilty he's going to be suspended at least a couple games. Supposedley it was his friend's 'easter pink drink' that was compenscated so he's fighting it. That's the impression I've gotten from what I've read anyway.

I guess I disagree with you guys on this one, if you make the assumption (big if) that he picked good players. That defense functions as an 11 man unit and already has three huge playmakers in Woodson, Collins and Clay Matthews.

If the D-lineman from Purdue is able to help put more consistent pressure on the line, that will tremendously help those other guys make even more plays. The past two years, our D-line seemed susceptible to being worn out during the course of a game and especially against teams with good o-lines.

Same thing goes for our new third round safety. Sometime after the first half of 2007, Atari Bigby ceased to be a big playmaker. Plug in a playmaker to that spot and we no longer have the Cardinals being able to put those passes into the seam under pressure.

Part of the pass rush is having great pass rushers. But a bigger part to me is having an effective 11-man unit. If the guys TT picked up can play, the defense should be a lot better. Plus I think Raji really comes on in year two.

Please point me to anything that says we were ever close to signing Peppers. That's simply not true.

Good post PP..I agree about the DL depth and if Neal can be a good rotation guy (at least) on the line then I'm good with that pick.

Regarding Wilson, he does seem to be in the grey area of DE/OLB weight wise. I'm really curious about their plans. I'd think he either needs to add or lose some weight to fit either position. I still like taking the best football player in the 7th round. Wilson actually reminds me some of Jeremy Thompson. I'd prefer they cut some weight and see if he can be a LB.

My point with that statement was that the packers along with other teams surely considered Pepper's desire to play OLB in a 3-4 system. I'm not saying we had a contract all drafted up for him or anything. I'm just saying that many fans were very much in favor of signing Pepper's to play OLB and nobody really blinked at his size. I will remember to be more literal in the future.

On packers.com, he says he played at ~265-270 earlier in his career, and implied that he had some trouble adjusting to the extra weight. I wonder if the Packers might ask him to take that weight back off.

packers.com wrote:Wilson's junior season was the most productive of his college career as he earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year honors from ESPN and league MVP honors from Sporting News. Wilson ranked second in the conference with a career-high 10½ sacks as well as a career-best 18½ tackles for loss.

Wilson pointed to the increased attention he received from opponents as a senior after his standout junior campaign, and also playing at a higher weight than he had the previous season, for the drop in production. He said he is comfortable now at 290 pounds after also playing at 265-270 earlier in his college career.

Also, doesn't 18.5 TFL traditionally qualify as a ****?

It's a very good amount, though I wouldn't call it a ****. He ranked 26th in the NCAA FBS that year in TFLs per game (1.32). For perspective, Graham led the FBS this past season with 2.17 per game. Schofield was second with 1.88.

Should be noted that I'm not talking down about him; just answering the question.

I think maybe I just like saying **** more than you do, so I lower the bar.

Seems like a lot. He was obviously a menace to his conference if they voted him MVP.

I actually looked up the numbers after I asked the question. I am genuinely disappointed we didn't get Schofield. Mike Neal:Schofield::Respert:Finley?

I was crushed when OB got injured at the Senior Bowl. It was like someone ran over my dog. Really hope that he can overcome his injury and make an impact with the Cardinals down the road. And yes, I absolutely would have taken a chance at some point on Schofield if it had come to be. Ultimately, we traded our 4th - the round he got picked in.

+1

Insane bad luck for him. From all reports, he was killing it at the Senior Bowl too. Who knows what might've happened if he didn't get hurt, he could've slipped into the 1st round.

I was shocked he got picked that early to be honest with you, thought perhaps Teddy would have picked him with the extra 5th.

I'm not

He was a legit high 2nd round talent and often 4th round picks have limited impact as rookies. So even if he doesn't get to play at all as a rookie, he'll still be able to get his body stronger and learn the defense so by next year he'll be much more likely to be able to contribute right away.

Schofield will be one of the major steals of this draft. He will be a highly effective pass rusher in the NFL.
