Toronto Raptor Mods

Post#1 » by Madmax 134 » Tue Apr 27, 2010 1:34 am

Not only are they the laziest group of mods out there(locking good threads instead of just cleaning up the garbage) but they are also biased and extra lenient with posters who side with their arguments.

I don't understand it, just because a guy has over 10,000 posts doesn't give him the right to insult new posters without even a warning.

How often do mods get replaced anyways?

I have never seen a group of mods complain about how hard their job is more than the raps mods. It is quite pitiful.
I do not understand how realgm tries to remain credible with some of their moderator choices. I will not call out anybody specific, since I have never really had in counters with any mods on my short time on this board, but from what I read, there are some really terrible mods on this site.

Thank you for posting this on the Feedback board, rather than on the mainboard, like some other people have been doing.

In any case, while you may feel that threads are being locked out of spite, or just locked arbitrarily, the RealGM Toronto Raptors Moderation staff reads through every thread, and makes decisions on a case-by-case basis. Some of the time, this involves locking a thread.

While you may feel as though your particular thread deserved to stay open, it is the duty of the Mods to make sure that threads that do not meet the standards of the RealGM Raptors board are locked. Unfortunately, this involves the thread that you created.

While I did not lock the thread in question, I will ask the other Moderators who did, and perhaps they can explain why they decided to lock it.

0_0, I've seen you posting in some of the threads on the forum, and I'd have to suggest that you raise the quality of the posts that you make, and try a less aggressive posting style. Those two, in combination, can lead to a short stay on RealGM.

Thanks,
Alfred

If you see anyone being a jerk and insulting people, report the post. For the record, you won't always know when posters are receiving warnings -- very often, that sort of stuff is handled privately with PMs or notes on the user's profile.

It's funny how the people that complain the most are actually some of the bigger **** out there.

i.e. Hobo Gonzalez

PS - What was the straw that broke that camel's back? If any of the mods care to share that info.

If a raptors mod falls in the forest, does he/she make a sound?

I just wanted to add that I sent you a PM about the member with over 10,000 posts and suggested that I give you both a warning considering you too had been hurling insults at people.

You seemed not to like that idea and replied to me sarcastically about what a great job the Mods do on RealGM.

At that point I just deleted your message. If you can't act like an adult and be polite then I have no time for you when you whine about another member.

Ya right... so let me guess suggesting someone is new to the game is considered an insult nowadays? while calling someone a joke or even better a brick is considered just as bad?

It this type of Moderating I just can't stand the double standard that exist amongst mods and long standing members.

Here's another suggestion instead of just pushing the lock button why not leave it open and clean the **** up so people can continue to comment on the thread that OBVIOUSLY was getting serious interest? Nah that would be logical who am I kidding.

Anyway Rhettmatic you are BY FAR the best mod of the bunch I appreciate your contributions to the threads.

Sometimes there is far too much crap. We honestly don't have the time to delete each and everyone of your condescending posts.

Again, I don't think of it as derailing to offer a wager to a poster who is clearly married to a particular position (and who goes out of their way in a condescending tone to address anyone who holds an opinion counter to their own in every thread) on said point.

I actually dropped it and moved on. YOU are the one that can't seem to drop it. YOU are the one that continued insulting posters that held a different opinion. In summation, YOU are the reason that thread was locked. It is beyond bizarre that the very poster who caused the thread to be locked despite public warnings is now the same person who is complaining that we didn't clean up the crap and keep the thread open.

Dude, it was your crap! We are not here to clean up your pooh and let you keep on crapping everywhere. Either post in a respectful manner, or just don't post at all.

Madmax 134, if you are not going to contribute productively to threads, then the consequences are quite clear.

Your concerns are noted, but the majority of the work we do is behind the scene's.....there is no need to pass judgment on how good or bad a MOD is based on your limited time here and exposure to the board and us.

Why not just discuss basketball in a non confrontational way.....that is why we are here isn't it?

I did! The fact that you can read it and not realize you'd been insulting people and been very condescending and summarily dismissive says a lot about you.

And to re-iterate what itbobby said, we don't necessarily broadcast warnings so please instead of pointing at other posters, aim that finger towards a mirror. If you see posts you find offensive then report them using the (!) button above all posts.

Madmax, IMO you need to take it down a notch. If Realgm can get you this riled up, then maybe this isn't the place for you. If you don't step out of line again, than you have nothing to worry about.

Its a forum about basketball, don't take it so seriously.

What exactly are you trying to say here. Can you pm me with some details, because I am going to respectfully disagree with your analysis, especially if it involves post on the raptors board, which you moderate, because my posts on that board have been nothing like you described.

This is funny to read. MadMax of all people complaining about other people, when he's done a whole lot of feather ruffling in the last few days.

Dude - this isn't a free for all. Mods do have written rules to follow, but there are also some unspoken rules that some of the busier forums have to follow as well - and the Raptors board is one of them. This means that when a poster starts throwing fits and mocking other posters opinions in a way that might not be a clear violation of the TOS, they have to do something to tone things down and keep the respect level high. I've had MANY of my own posts deleted so it's not like you're being unfairly targeted - you just happen to be throwing all kinds of **** around lately and are bringing the heat on yourself.

Imagine this place was a sports bar and that there are guys that have been coming to this bar for 5 or 10 years. How do you expect them to respond to a guy who comes in and starts getting all lippy with them - whether he is right or wrong? Say these guys are 20, 30, 40 years old and this guy who has been throwing out wisecrack from the other end of the bar is acting like he's not even old enough to drink. At some point in a real bar, if this dude doesn't tone down his attitude, someone will do it for him. Be thankful this is the internet and the worst that can happen is you get an occasional post deleted or thread locked.

Basically - try to talk to people like you would in real life, and you'll not only have an easier time with the mods and older users - you might even make some friends.
