Is there a way that Rudy returns to Europe but we retain his NBA rights?
This seems like the ideal solution, because the last thing I would want to see is Rudy lighting it up on another NBA team. But there is no room for quitters on teams, so Rudy has to go.

We could retain his rights once he enters restricted free agency, but he is under contract for next year.
If Rudy is trash and a quitter, why wouldn't you want him on the other team?

If he wants to go back the Blazers would either have to agree to some kind of buyout, or othewise relinquish their rights to him.
I'm no cap expert, but it would be pretty tough to retain his rights if he decided he'd had enough of the NBA, since European leagues and the NBA honor each other's contract rights.

Should probably just trade the guy... I don't see what the big deal is we're not talking about a superstar in the making here.

Trade Rudy and the draft pick and move up in the draft. Simple as that. That or talk with Minny about Rudy & Przybilla and see what you can get in return. I would think they'd be happy getting both players.

Re: Rudy returning to europe
Trading within your division is not the best idea, especially with Minnesota who has maybe 3 pieces who could help Portland but Minn wont give them up. I do like the idea of Rudy plus 1st rd #22 pick to move up in the draft... After whining about playing time, being irrelevant in the playoffs, and thinking of returning to Europe its time to get what you can for Rudy now. If you do make a draft day trade to move up, maybe pick up a decent young back up SG, possibly a Wesley Johnson from Syracuse, Xavier Henry from Kansas or dare I say Evan Turner?? Although moving up to the top 5 in the draft would be pretty tough with just Rudy and #22 pick, if Rudy's stock was high its possible.

Re: Rudy returning to europe
The title is sort of misleading as it sounds like this thread is based on Rudy making a decision to return to Europe.
