Mavs made this game really interesting. Beaubois is the one who brought them back in this game in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Rick Carlilse shot himself in the foot by not putting him in the 4th quarter until there were less than 2 minutes remaining in the game.

BTW, Haywood allowed Duncan to score the first 7 points of the game which set the tone early. Rick Carlilse then did the unthinkable and played Najera (or Dirk if you want to look at it that way) which forced him into foul trouble.

I liked how much better the offense was with Beaubois at the shooting guard position and Butler at the small forward position. Of course, Carlilse didn't properly use his bench in the 2nd half which cost the Mavs the game- who had the lead briefly in the 3rd quarter. Butler played well offensively but I felt like he didn't contain penetration enough, much like Jason Kidd. Mavs should be better next season with more chemistry between Dirk/Butler and bringing in a developed Beaubois.

Despite a horrible first quarter, it was a great game.

To bad for Haywood his best years for a contract were probably wasted.

At 30, and not being that quick and with the new CBA coming due, he isn't likely to get a multi year 8M deal.

He can get 7-8 first year, closer to 7 year two, then I would want it to back to 6M and be done.

It's hard to play hardball and wear desperation on your sleeve at the same time.

with all due respect, hands... that's crazy talk. even with his terrible playoff showing he's going to ink a multi-year 8 mil deal AT LEAST, especially with too many teams with cap room and not enough superstars to go around. For starters he has the mavs and us to play against each other. i'm sure the thunder would also put their hat in for a bid. sacramento, phoenix, and miami are also potential suitors. the deal you describe is something someone like andres nocioni has. haywood is going to sign for a good chunk more than that.

If Camby can get 2 years at 10 million added to his contract, I am sure Haywood can get at least 8 million. The next best options at Center are Brad Miller and Jermaine O'Neal. Given the amount of cap space and teams that need to fill a roster, I think they both get at least MLE money.

Mike Lee put wrote a piece on the end of the Dallas Wizards season.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsider/

Dallas Wizards lose in first round
As much as Wizards fans probably hated to see Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson and the Dallas Wiz, um, Mavericks get knocked out in the first round on Thursday in San Antonio, the organization might be able to take a sigh of relief this morning

...

But now that the Mavericks became the first No. 2 seed to lose a best-of-seven series - despite adding Butler and Stevenson's salary next season and taking on Haywood's $6 million salary this season - the Wizards could come out ahead in the long term, depending on how they use the available cap and trade exceptions that the deal yielded (Remember, the Wizards got a $6 million trade exception for the Haywood deal and Gooden brought back Al Thornton and a $4.5 million trade exception as well).

....

As Haywood told me last week, "If I have a good first round and we don't get out of the first round, everybody is going to talk about how he played well, but he didn't have an impact."

Just a few snippets of an interesting piece by Mike Lee. Lee pointed out that the Jasons (Terry and Kidd) didn't do much for the Mavs and that Carlisle stuck with Dampier too long. He also asked if anybody remember Carlisle not playing young Tayshaun Prince in the playoffs. Carlise should have played Beaubois a whole lot more.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Caron Butler & Brendan Haywood both got 1 vote apiece for all-defensive teams.

Does Caron have a relative with a vote?

I'm sure there's a "Sharon Butler" somewhere on the masthead of the Racine Picayune-Gazette.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.
