They agreed to pay it so how does that make him a gold digger. Its not like this money is going to keep the Yankees from going after someone else.

It's only for the remainder of the season, there's no pitcher available for the remainder of the season that they would be saving this money for. AFTER this season, they can take that $18-20 million and throw it at whatever top name is out there. Aside from the sheer dollar amount this deal makes perfect sense for NY. They get the best available pitcher that doesn't cost them anything other than money (i.e. none of their top prospects).

In the NL with no run support Clemens got about 35 wins in 3 years with the Astros. So, that averages to about 12 a year. Only pitching 5 to 6 inninngs in the AL will not get Clemens a lot of wins becasue: the hitting is better, and the Yanks bullpen sucks. I say Clemens ERA skyrockets from about 2.50 in the NL to about 4.30 in the AL and he only gets 6 wins.

I hope thats not true..

I hope his ERA is atleast not more than 4.
I do agree our bullpen has been sucking.
But our hittin is gonna push us.

During his 4 year stint with the Yankees from 99-03, Clemens never had an ERA lower than 3.70, and only broke sub 4 ERA twice.. 03' was four years ago, face, Clemens is gonna be lit up like a Christmas Tree.
