Felton Signs With Knicks

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Sun May 2, 2010 5:22 pm

Figure this will be a hot topic over the next two months so might as well have an official thread for it.

Let 'er rip.

Here is my stance.

I'd happily have him back. Happily............so long as it is at the right price. If he wants more than 5 mil a year I say "seeya later Chunks".

I fully believe that we could get the same sort of production out of a replacement PG that we get out of Felton for the price of around 5 mill or less. Guys like Jack, Lowry, Watson, Banks, Sessions etc. Even if there was a small drop off, it's not big enough of a drop off the warrant an extra 2, 3, 4, 5 or how ever many more millions the Felton camp may want.

It would suck to "Ben Gordon" Felts, but it would suck more to invest that sort of coin into him IMO.

I also think the FO has no intention of bringing him back.

My thoughts as well, but I wouldn't mind if the FO decided to let him walk anyway.

Is he a solid player? Yes.

Is he worth the 7mil he turned down last year? No.

He can stay if he signs a Jarrett Jack contract. Anything more, then it's time for him to move on

I would very much dislike seeing Felton leave Charlotte, but if the Nets get Wall, what type of trade could we work out for Harris?

i would like us to let him walk or sign and trade him....its clear as day we cant get to the next level with felton so there is no need to commit to him...i wouldnt mind getting him cheap but i dont think he is really going to take that cause its so much money out in the FA market

It's all going to depend on the teams like NY and Miami who need a PG. I can picture them offering Felton a decent deal, and it will come down to how high it is and how much the Bobcats are willing to match. I think they would match up to an extent, but I can't picture it being more than 6.

It's unfortunate too, because we will be paying more or the same to WAY less impact players like Diop, Nazr, Tyson. Not to mention Diaw getting over 9mil. I'm sure that's how Felton is looking at it.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing that one team can get locked up in that many bad contracts. All 4s and 5s, no less.

Yup, and what is the weakest part of this team? The 4's and 5's by a wide margin.

They should seriously consider just buying out Diop's contract. I think it'd cost us less money in the long run and give us some flexibility. It's not coming off the books until 2013.

luxury tax

Felton Walks. The bobcats can't afford to keep both Tyrus Thomas and Raymond Felton. If Tyrus accept his qualifying offer, the Cats will have about $3 million to spend on 3 more players. (for a roster total 14 players)

Let him go. The worst thing that can happen is the team resigns him and then trades him a year later like they did with Okafor. He's a good PG but a huge disappointment compared to the two PG's that were taken before him a few years ago. He never developed to the level he should have, and rewarding him with a huge contract will not encourage him to get better (see: Diop, Jerome James, etc).

the bad contracts on our team were signed during a different economic climate. it is no longer fair to compare contracts from 3 years ago to players signing now. i fully expect to see teams being much less liberal about handing out large deals to average to above average players. smart teams will save the big contracts for the superstars, who are still probably underpaid, and the rest of the players can take what is left.

i feel bad for ray because i truly believe he made a huge financial mistake by turning down that contract last season. i think there is 0% chance he receives a similar offer from us this year, so he will be relying on another team to want him bad enough to overpay for his services. are there really any teams that desperate for an average starting pg?

The Knicks and Heat come to mind. Possibly the Lakers if Derek Fisher decides to retire. If Jason Kidd was to retire, the Mavericks would definitely grab someone and probably overpay as well. I'm probably missing a team or two, but the FA market for PG's is not that great this year as most teams already have solid players at the position.
