Yup. I'd ask the same thing. I need to know if he takes things personal and acts emotionally or if he's capable of acting like a professional. You ask the same thing to a self-made millionaire, they're just going to laugh it off, not look to "clock" someone.

Here is a good read on this situation and why it is so irritating and overblown at the same time...

I have biases and blind spots here. My body of work would suggest I'm anti-management and forever against the dictator leader favored in the army regimen of football, where fans applaud the kind of boss they themselves would not want to work for, filing his mean and cruel treatment under ``discipline'' and ``leadership'' and ``motivation'' and ``toughness.'' I'm also consistently pro-athlete and pro little guy and that often gets me called an apologist for black athletes.

So, in this case, you'd think I'd just follow the masses away from Parcells and over to Bryant's side. Who can't see the insult in a possible employer asking you if mom is a prostitute? But I was more interested in understanding and explaining Ireland's line of questioning. Not excusing it. Explaining it. And the more questions I asked this week trying to find context and nuance -- I mean, the conversation over dinner didn't go from ``What's your favorite route to run?'' to ``Was your mom a whore?'' -- the more I was met from people close to Bryant with: ``I don't know, and I don't care.''

Gets pretty hard to get at the truth that way. Did Bryant tell Ireland his father was a pimp? ``I don't know, and I don't care.'' Well, um, doesn't that matter? Doesn't it suggest more intimacy than you find in the average get-to-know-you conversation? Unfortunately, nobody wanted to talk on the record . . . because of the reaction. And I couldn't get in touch with Bryant.

His mom isn't a crackho, just a crackhead. There's a difference Ireland.

We have no choice in who our family is so who or what they do is irrelevant. Now, if he were hanging out with pimps and drug dealers that would be a different story. Friends are chosen and who you choose to be around is a reflection of you and/or your character.

They don't care about the answer. They were interested in Bryant's reaction to the question. You really think they give a crap what his parents did for a living?

Also, I heard on the radio this morning that the TB Buccaneers asked Myron Rolle why he deserted his team. WTF is that? I would have told them F-U, I enjoy football, and I'm committed to it, but I know I'm not going to play football the rest of my life. Studying in Oxford will have a far greater impact on the rest of my life.

Hahah, now that is stupid. I wonder if they ask that to everyone who leaves before their senior year?

In situations like this , it is difficult to give a fair analysis of the situation. This is because the whole thing has been quoted out of context. In my view there is nothing wrong with the question if the aim is to test Dez's level of tolerance, accommodation and temperament.
