Houston gets Bosh and Hedo
Portland gets Ariza
Toronto gets Battier, Przybilla, Jeffries, Hill, Knicks 2011 pick, future conditional pick from Houston
If we draft Paul George, this is our roster (asterisk = expiring contract.... $35.7M worth!!)
Jack / Calderon / Banks*
DD / Weems* / Belinelli*
Battier* / George / Jeffries*
Bargnani / Hill / Evans* / Dorsey*
Przybilla* / Johnson
Seems cool. I would try to extract a little bit more from Houston such as Lowry or their 14th pick this year as well. This year's draft will be deep. If the plan is to get younger than go even further. I would send Jose and the 14th pick from Houston for TJ and the 10th pick. Indiana wants to improve its image and they can salvage a solid PG in Jose out of this. We get an even higher pick and another expiring. Our expiring would be worth about $44M worth.
We pick up the most potential players with the 13th and 10th pick. You mentioned George but also get someone like Whiteside for the 5 spot. Use more cash to pick up another late first rounder, preferably diamond in the tough player. Resign Amir and then play it out till December 15th. I would also use the MLE on any remaining solid role players.
If there are teams willing to dump any good young players we go for that by trading cap space and young players. If not we use our cap space in 2011 to sign restricted free agents.
We need this time to develop young players, utilize cap opportunities like the MLE to pick up under the radar players at value deals. If Amir is signed at a nice 5 year 25 million deal and another MLE player then we can go into the 2011 off season with very little salary paid to value players
ie
Jack - 4 mill - Solid Backup PG
Amir - 5 mill - Solid Energy Backup 4 or 5
MLE - 5 mill - preferably a solid Backup 5
Geroge - 2 mill - Rookie contract at 3 spot
Whiteside - 2 mill - Rookie contract at 5 spot
Hill - 3 mill - Rookie contract at 4 spot
Derozan - 3 mill - Rookie contract at 2 spot
Whoever we get with a later 1st round pick - 1 mill
About $25 mill spent on young players. This would leave about $25 mill to spend after spending about 3 or 4 mill on resigning Weems as well. I have kept Bargs out of this assuming we unload his contract for an expiring as well.
You have about 9 spots filled for under $30 mill. Add in a couple second rounders this year to up that to 11. Add a top 5 pick in 2011 and that brings the salary to $30 mill. We have about $25 mill to spend. Who knows how the CBA might be. You get a smaller max starting contract which would mean at about 12 mill that can allow us to max out 2 players. Some restricted free agents at that time would be
Oden
Harford
Noah
Young
Green
Anyone of these players could be had at the max if we throw it at them. Or if any unsigned players from 2006 such as Rudy Gay ( if he takes the qualifying offer) are available you sign him as well.
I don't think Jose + #13 pick can get us anything.
And I don't think Triano wants more than 2 rookies, and one of them is more NBA ready (eg. Aldrich)
I think trade up is a good idea, and perhaps LAC don't need to pick that high for a wing/guard.
If Aldrich is there, I think Belinelli + #13 + $1m cash or #13 pick + $3m cash for #8 pick.
Sounds good. I would still try to unload Jose for an expiring if possible and pick up young players. If Triano is staying then you save on coaching money and try to get assistant coaches and development guys to work on your rookies. I think the idea is to develop them as soon as possible. Add another top 5 pick next year and New Yorks pick in 2012, we should be good to go. In the mean time Derozan, Weems, Amir and Beli get more minutes.
