Been told that Larry Brown is not a realistic possibility and Stefanski is probably safe for 2010 but was told to make changes to turn this franchise around.

reading PhilasFinest post about what Dei Lynam says..maybe thats a good thing that Doug Collins agrees with that?

Avery Johnson we like alot but internally the thought is if New Orleans offers their job to him..he is gone. Home town guy.

If we cant get Evan Turner in the draft...we may move the pick with a vet for an upgraded vet. We are targetting getting a pure SG, who can also defend, this offseason. We like Xavier Henry too...but can drop down to get him.

Mark Jackson is intriguing but I heard he would really have to wow us in his interview this week because he has never coached before. Jeff Van Gundy is really giving him a vote of confidence though for consideration.

Dwayne Casey is interested again and was told he would be brought back in when we get to the 2nd round of interviews. The fact that he was interviewed twice last year...they know what he can do and dont think they need to do a first interview with him again. The getting permission thing from Dallas will happen, its just a formality.

Not sure Thibodeau or the Spurs assistant are going to get interviews at this point.

I think collins will get a 2nd interview.....The wildcard in alot of this is New Orleans....they like Casey and Johnson alot....and I think whoever they DONT get will be a finalist here along with Collins. And which of the coaching canidates interviews with chicago now that they are firing DelNegro? Stay tuned....it will heat up this week.

No timetable on this but was told they have tentatively set a goal of having a new coach in place by the draft lottery and letting the coach be the one that attends the lottery. Thats just a goal not a deadline date. They wont rush this but its a realistic goal.

I hate this team. So if we don't get the 2nd pick we go for a vet. Shortsighted band-aid approach to building a team. Stef should be canned.

I'm starting to hope Doug Collins gets it if we don't go for an assistant like thibs or bud. I'm kinda turned off by Casey after reading about his crappy X's and O's (insert chalk talk joke), peculiar substitution patterns and inability to effectively use time outs. So, lets keep symphonic from that basketball juggernaut known as the Washington Wizards!

Which vet is Ed targeting?
not in order
joe johnson
monta ellis
ray allen
ben gordon
rip hamilton
gilbert arenas
stephen jackson
manu ginobli
jason richardson
kevin martin
john salmons
vince carter
jj reddick
ronnie brewer
jamal crawford
jr smith

Well obviously Joe Johnson is on Ed's radar but who else could possibly fit that vet SG role. Are they really worth the 3rd/6th/7th/8th pick. I don't see too much after Johnson. Maybe Monta or Gordon.

Maybe he's thinking OJ Mayo?

Maybe it's just a no brainer to me, but Johnson seems like the best choice because he actually had a lot of success in his time as coach. When Collins took the Washington job, he was less than stellar and that was with a playoff team. He won a lot with Jordan but never won it all.

I don't see anything in Dwane Casey. Nothing about his resume is impressive. And the rest are unproven.

I also still wouldn't mind Byron Scott as our coach either. He took two teams that were in the dumps (Nets & Hornets) and made them into top teams in the NBA. I think we have the framework on this team to do similar things.

Could be..... I didn't add Mayo b.c he's not considered a 'vet yet'. Who knows though but Mayo should be high on their radar.

I only will do a trade with our pick for Johnson. I also like Gordon, but he is overpaid.

Collins coach Hamilton in Washington, and he is avalaible. But Hamilton for a high pick (and Dalembert, for exemple) in this moment for me is a joke.

Mayo is well, but he isn´t vet. but i like a lot some trade for him.

Yeah, If we are going for OJ I take back everything I said. I'd prefer OJ over the 6th pick, particularly if Johnson and Aminu are both off the board after WTF.

Let me give props to Ed Stefanski: He recognizes THE position of need. Yes, the frontcourt is in shambles but the fact that Louis Williams and Willie Green are our main two guards(Iggy is NOT A 2 in the NBA).

I mean, that's pathetic. I also approve of trading Iguodala, letting Thad get the reins at SF Full-time. What Iggy brings 1) isn't worth his salary, 2) isn't worth keeping Thad down.

Thank you Stefanski, for addressing this team's actual needs.

Thanks for the update SF.

As for the trading of the pick...

I'm good with it if we get mayo and one of Memphis's #12 (say Thad+#7 for Mayo + #12), but I'm not all of getting Memphis's #25 or @29 pick (or no pick at all.) I'm really against bringing in some band-aid or majorly overpaid older vet. That would be a HUGE step in the wrong direction- or more accurately a continuation of their current band-aid approach.

I don't love the idea of Collins being here but I do like it a little bit. I think that given the right players (the key to any coach) that he can coach a team into being a contender. The question is whether or not Doug will want to come in here and instantly flip the young guys for proven vets?

I read this as financial. Trade a vet with the pick for a lower priced vet & voila the team is under the LT for next season. Seeing as the 6th pick is 2.5M & the 7th pick is 2.3M & the team is committed to 65.8M already, that should just about do it.

That is one of the most disturbing updates I've read in a long time. This is really starting to become my most hated team in Philly history. I can't stand anyone in the organization from top to bottom.

Trade a pick for a vet because you can't get Turner. This MORON Stiff still thinks he can contend, huh? What a joke. How can he not be fired? You need to rebuild, dude. Get a grip on reality. Your team sucks. If you don't get Turner, take the BPA to build for the future.

Whatever, he can do whatever the hell he wants.

Westbrook36: This team can be built to contend, but it's a long shot.

We need to upgrade the 5/4/2 positions. The 2 being the biggest. We've seen with Jason Kapono what someone who can score the ball can bring to this basketball team.

Also I'd like a Whiteside, a Udoh, A Sanders, etc with a second first round pick. Get a good strong shotblocker because this team needs a future C replacement, and it also needs someone to come off the bench defensively. Jason Smith was our 2nd best big last year.

And finally, Elton Brand showed some flashes last year. He's not completely done. Or at least from an offensive standpoint. He just needs to do a better job rebounding and on the defensive end.

If we get a solid Brand on both ends, a shotblocking big and a legitimate shooting guard, I feel like we could very easily be a top-4 team in the Eastern Conference.

It'll take luck to fill those holes, and it'll take a motivated Elton Brand. But it is possible to compete with this roster.

I'm not dragging up 3 different quotes, but in order of importance:

No, this team can't content. We aren't 1-2 players away we are more like 1 and 1/2 to 2 Lebrons away. (The lebron is a unit of measure equal to 25 regular season wins, and isn't convertible to the metric system).

If the management thinks OJ Mayo is a vet, they should be fired for that.

Out of the long list of sg's, Monta and Gordon are defensive weaknesses. Sadly Hamilton looks like our overpriced target. The news gets worse as Detroit wants to dump long term salary, so we can dump Dalambert for him and add cap inflexibility on cap inflexibility. Genius! Why recognize we are halfway over with the last failed plan when you can double down on it???

I like Henry a lot for this team. They will suck for the next 3 regardless. So we could have an emerging backcourt at that time of Holiday and Henry, both of whom will still be just starting to enter their prime window. Now we just need a few more positions over the next 3 years...

What fool says I need a sg, I will trade for one and draft Henry???? Its either admitting Henry doesn't project to help you, or creating a logjam and hindering your future stars development. It is so internally inconsistent that I accept at full value the franchise said it.

Maybe the answer to above is we have zero other positions of need? I wish I had known that last season as I watched the games.

I feel like I shouldn't rule out Iggy and 6 for Richardson and the 25th pick, oops Henry wasn't there, we are okay with the player we got...

Hiring a coach doesn't matter of the right players aren't there. God that sounds like Eddie Jordan. an, whomever hired Eddie Jordan should be fired...

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!! why are they talking to doug collins????? he hasnt wont jack s*it!!! only out of first round 2 times...decent regualr seasons but ...COME THE HELL ON PEOPLE UPSTAIRS,,,,GM NEEDS TO BE FIRED!! AND DO NOT RECYCLE ANOTHER NOTHING COACH WHO HASNT WON A DAMN THING. WE NEED A WINNING COACH WHO CAN BRING A WINNNING ATTITUDE TO THIS YOUNG TEAM OR TAKE A CHANCE ON SOMEONE NEW COMMING UP, I COULD AT LEAST LIVE WITH THAT..BUT TO HIRE SOMEONE WHO HAS SHOWN THEY ARE NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER COACH IT JUST DUMB AND I AM REALLY STARTING TO GET A BAD FEELING ABOUT WHO THEY ARE GONNA CHOOSE...JUST LIKE LAST YEAR...UH WAITING TO SEE HOW THIS TURNS OUT..THEN THE DRAFT...MIGHT BE ANOTHER FORGETTABLE SEASON

This is why I have been harping on Stiff being the #1 problem with this team right now. Everyone was talking all year about how Eddie Jordan needs to go, but it has to be the Stiff. He's going to ruin this team beyond repair. If we get a top 3 pick or even if we just get the 6th pick and he trades it for a veteran 2 guard, then it will be a worse move than signing Brand. We need an infusion of young talented players so we can build a team. This loser is so delusional, he thinks this team can contend. You combine that with the pressure on him from Snider to turn the team around, he will start trading away young players for vets just to save his own ass and get this team to 40 wins and in the playoffs as an 8th seed.

Ed Stefanski is the worst GM that this town has ever seen.... period. He's worse than Ed Wade, he's worse than BK, he's worse than anyone. He's going to ruin the little bit of hope this team has for a future if he's allowed to continue on. I just hope the fans stand up to this organization for being an embarrassment.
