Someone that really understands how opposing players like to play and the kind of situations to force them into that will make them less effective. So much of defence is playing smart like this, and battier will improve the defensive intelligence of the raps greatly. I know ppl can see battier as a throw in or something that will perpetuate being a 'treadmill team' but really battier is the kind of guy that wins basketball games, and I think his presence on the team will be massive for the raptors if they get him. To me, he is the biggest piece that needs to come back if we deal with the rockets
Yeah, that Battier article was great, I really enjoyed it. Battier himself is a great guy. Really high BBIQ. Still, if the Raps ask for him, you'd think it would make more sense to ship him out for another pick or prospect. Raps need to rebuild OKC-style...paying Battier 7.8 mil a year to provide "leadership" seems like a poor use of resources.

Bargains are relative. A quantitative-minded GM like Morey is not going to view Bargnani as a bargain at 10 mil a year. He has this guy, David Andersen who is also a stretch big like Bargs. A 6'11 PF/C. Andersen is being paid $2.3 mil this season, and expires in 2011 (team options after that.) Andersen is a defensive liability like Bargs, and not nearly as efficient offensively. However, he is also a much better rebounder. That is more Morey's style...he is not going to give big money to Bargnani when he can find a guy who can do the same job for a fraction of the money. Thus from Morey's perspective, Bargs is a bad contract. From Colangelo's perspective, maybe Bargs is a good contract. But this is the difference between a Morey and Colangelo...one guy fills his roster with Budinger and Andersen (3 million, team options), the other grabs Turk and Bargs (16+ mil, 5+ years).
I appologize for personal insult. But grouping bargs with Jose and hedo in terms of bad contracts is ridiculous.
you are a total mindreader Ripp. You know that Morey see bargs as overpaid, yet he obviously sees Bosh as worth a max (as well as giving up assets just to pay him the max).
you are a total bargs hater, fine. just dont ASSUME that every GM out there agrees with you. it is ridiculous.

For me, in addition to the draft picks, Battier is a must. He will help accelerate the development of DD and Weems by teaching them good defensive habits. At the trade deadline, he will likely net us a young player with potential from a contender looking to get over the hump. Fill out the rest of the trade with Jeffries and one of Hill or Buddinger and the rights to Sergio Llull. That will give us some assets and we will suck enough to get a high draft pick next year. We could turn things around pretty quickly after that.

Re: Houston readying full-court press for Bosh
Time for BC's friendly media to create articles that would plus this deal.
The more deals in work, bigger the bidding war, the better return we get for Bosh.
I for one want immediate return (impact players) and I'm sure BC wants the same.
Picks are ok to roll them up into today's players.
Keep one low draft, but hoping to draft well in couple of years will not fill MLSE pockets.
I am tired of a team on continuous rebuilding mode, we need some stability in the near future. Only stability gives time to the right players to gel.
Rebuild around defense this summer and hope that we get the right pieces this time.

not to worry, Ripp is certain Bosh will be a breakout defender when he finally isnt being brought down by raptor scrubs.
Ripp isn't the only one that thinks that and I'll be sure to remind you when it happens.
what a revelation,
RIPP and REIGHNMAN LOVE BOSH, see absolutely no faults in him.
The same two guys hate Bargs with a passion, seeing none of his positives.
The same two guys pretty much hate on the entire organization in attempt to exonerate Bosh of any blame at all for our **** season, or the fact that all bosh has gotten us is **** seasons.
please RIPP, REIGNMAN REMIND ME WHEN BOSH BECOMES A "BREAKOUT" DEFENDER. LOL. It has about the same chance of happeneing as Bargs becoming a breakout rebounder

What do Morey and Adelman know?
It isn't rocket science. How many guys in the league can make rotations and defend the PnR like Bosh? There aren't too many. He is a 6'11 guy with a 7'4 wingspan who covers long areas in a short period of time. He isn't a bulky low-post defender, or an athletic freak like young Garnett. But he does have rare physical tools that can be really helpful for a team trying to build a good defense.
It isn't me being a Bosh homer...those are just the facts. Some choose to focus on the negative facts (poor shot-blocking, poor low-post defense) rather than the positive ones. But a good coach will be able to get a lot out of CB defensively.

Fixed.
"If" is for people that don't see Bosh being at the right place at the right time on rotations. "If" is for people that don't see Bosh staying low in close outs and not biting on pumpfakes. "If" is for people that don't realize that Bosh isn't a great "two way" player so he isn't aggressive on defense.
Bosh knows how to play D (as opposed to Bargs who doesn't) and if / when he goes to a team that can provide him with a bonafide wing scorer and a good defensive system with defensive players, you'll see a different Bosh.
For me it's a matter of "when" not "if" when it comes to Bosh's D and he's shown me enough in different scenarios for me to be confident in that prediction.

Bosh and Bargnani seem to bring the worst out in all of us. Trade them both to Houston!

Calm down and drink some cool-aid brah. Its just a forum. You are starting to embarrass yourself now. Bosh played with a team full of scrubs and the results showed for it.

No worries, insults happen, not a big deal.
I'm not assuming that every GM agrees with me...I'm observing that one very specific GM got a very similar player for a fraction of the cost. Why is then unreasonable to to suggest he would not want Bargnani at 5 years 50 mil, when David Andersen is doing a similar job for 2.5 mil? Does it require me to be a hater to suggest he wouldn't be interested? Would you as GM want Bargnani if you have a similar player for much less money?
Look, like I keep saying...."value" is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe for the Raps and certain other teams, Bargnani is a great value. For others teams/GMs, it is certainly within the realm of possibility that he is not. Just because I acknowledge this fact doesn't make me a hater.
In any case, I should have known better than to bring up his name, lest it derail the thread. My fault for doing so..

Calm down, LOL. Bosh knows how to play D but doesn't so he can conserve energy / avoid fouls because he's not a great two-way player. Put him in a situation where he isn't option 1 and 2 on offense and his defense will thrive.
Bargs just doesn't understand defense / rebounding, big difference.
But it's all good, if Bosh goes I probably won't discuss him much if at all, but I will make a point to remind you about his D.
