You people are just setting yourself up for disappointment, some of these trades are ridiculous, even if Bosh wasn't a Free Agent he's not worth what you guys are asking for.

Contract Season wrote:GhostRaider2007 wrote:I have a question that maybe someone here can answer. I have seen several trades here suggest that Houston trade this years pick, their 2011 pick which they have the option of swapping with the Knicks, and either their 2012 pick or the 2012 pick they just acquired from the Knicks as well.
The question I have and also know I am not bashing any of those suggesting those trade scenarios but isn't there a rule in place that forbids the trading of multiple consecutive first round draft picks from one team to another that would prevent this?
Again know that I am not bashing these scenarios. I am just confused as I have heard others here at RealGm mention this rule before so I am know asking would that rule apply here or is there a way to get around it that would allow these scenarios that would allow them to trade their 2010, 2011, 2012 first round draft picks to us.
You are right, here's the way around it:
Toronto tells Houston who to pick at 14. Houston makes the pick then later trades the draft rights to the Raptors. That allows Houston to trade its pick next year as well.
New York can't trade its 2011 first because Utah gets its 2010. So it would be a 2012 pick from the Knicks.
New York can't trade its 2011 first because Utah gets its 2010, so New York allows Houston to swap their 2011 first (top 1 or 5 protected). And as said, we can get the draft rights for Houston #14 pick this year.
Most likely we will use the picks to trade away our bad contracts for serviceable ones, so we are not fully rebuilding, but upgrading our positions with those picks.

No Scola no deal it's that simple. Chase and friends isn't going to cut it.

^--- Scola simply will not come to the Raps. He is a RFA, and wants to play for a winner. I doubt he'd come even to be overpaid, he wants to win basketball games.

Then there is no point in dealing with Houston. I'd rather have Mrs. Beasley.

He's played in the Euroleague, I'm sure he's close with Gherardini and BC. He'd fit right in here, and get the starter's job. I don't really want him though.

Please google the relevant article....something about Scola, winning team, and free agency. He absolutely would not go to a losing team, regardless of an Euroleague connections. Remember, the guys isn't just about money...he could have made more money just staying in Europe. Instead, he wants a winning organization.

While Houston is a great fit for him without Bosh with Bosh is another matter. Bosh is used to getting a lot of minutes at the 4. Are they going to pay Scola 12 mil to be Bosh's back-up? No I didn't think so. Would we pay Scola 12 mil to play the most minutes per game on the team? Absolutely. We won 40 games last year and we should have had another 8 easily in the bag. If Scola came over we could still be in that territory. Was Houston a winning team this year? If they get Bosh they are not keeping Scola. He as a RFA is looking for a big raise. That's just the way it is.

Houston seems like such a logical choice for Bosh. Closer to home. Big market. Opportunity to be the #1 option on offense. Opportunity to contend for a title. Plus, if Yao sticks with the team, Bosh will get some major exposure in China. Could translate to some major dollars.
Plus Houston has a tonne of assets to move in a deal.

Couple of picks + a role player. Some of the trades suggested here are absolutely ridiculous.

Interesting article. In it, the author suggests that Brooks can be had if that's what it takes for Bosh to come over to Houston. If we can get Brooks, Kevin Martin and draft picks, I will pack Bosh's bags for him. The article also hints that Toronto is still Bosh's first choice, but I find that hard to believe...

If Scola gets a big raise as an RFA then he immediately becomes BYC which will make him much more difficult to include in the deal anyways. So in order for him to be included easily, he'd have to agree to a contract smaller than 5mil in his first year (less than MLE). So good luck with that working.

Plus, and don't think players discount this, Houston won championships while Bosh was alive. I know it was a long time ago but legacy still counts for something in the minds of athletes when they're choosing colleges, franchises, etc. Do you think KG and Ray Allen agreed to pair up with Paul Pierce simply because they thought he was a good guy and a good player? I bet if he was playing in Memphis at the time things might have been a little different. I'd wager that the Celtics past history and winning brand played a larger role than many realize.
When Houston rolls out the red carpet for Bosh and he sees Houston's NBA championship trophies behind glass... all lit up... it'll leave an impression. And when they tell him that they think he's their missing piece to bringing championships back to Houston he'll listen even more intently.

Hoopsworld is hoopsworld, but yeah, why can't we at least get Brooks? You'd think that the best PF(top three, at least) in the league is worth at least a young prospect. I would be willing to take one less pick if it came to that, but established talent on a rookie deal's always better a mid-level pick.

I am pretty sure I came across an article like that while looking for trade news last night.
I believe it was by way of a blog posting (maybe a month old) for a NBA blog that Scola does for a Chinese website/newspaper. The gist of it was that while Scola would prefer to play in Houston he would not block a trade to somewhere else because he understands the NBA is a business and he has learned to play in different places as well from his time in the Euroleague.

Houston will not trade their starting PG and SG AND picks just to get Bosh.
Besides, I don't want those two anyway. Expiring contracts/scrubs will do fine.
