Re: AM 670 (Jason Goff)/CBS 2: Vinny Fired
We need writers like Woj to counteract the puppets like Sam Smith and KC Johnson who cover for the team - not necessarily at the request of the team, but to keep themselves in the team's good graces. I actually applaud Yahoo sports for breaking this stuff. It's sad that we have to depend on a national source for our Chicago rumors. If only one writer in Chicago had the stones, we'd hear it from them first.

2024: Maybe there's some hope?

I don't think we need to continue the 76ers coaching job search watch either. Any coach that would jump to Philly without giving the Bulls a shot is not a coach worth pursuing IMO.

"Good PR about themselves" is one thing, kicking a guy on his way out sends a nice message to any others interested in the job about what they can expect when their time will be over.
Let me guess - "it won't have any impact," right?

Goodbye Vinny! You were another terrible Chicago Bulls head coach.

That's one interpretation, I suppose.

Interesting use of quotation marks, what with it not being a quote and all.

I'm just shocked by how quickly people forgot about how bad of a coach Vinny was just because a couple national reporters who don't know what they're talking about looked at the results and assumed he had something to do with it. We did what we did because Rose and Noah are such special players. This is the right move and we'll be better for it moving forward

I don't know, considering how much half the board has been trying to convince the other half that certain recent actions by management "won't have any impact," I think it's fair to quote it in a general sense regarding the style and execution of their latest move today/tomorrow/whatever and what sort of impression any potential candidates and FAs would take away from something like this.

the only coaches mentioned anywhere that interest me in any way are
1. phil
2. van gundy
3. theus
4. musselman
5. calipari
6. collins
those are the only choices i could possibly see my self convincing myself are good ideas. and im not sure they all are good ideas anyway.

terrible coach? i don't think so... he handle every situation the best he possibly could and did pretty well with an 82-82 with the type of roster he had. Its obvious that a coach needs a roster that is actually built to succeed, not be partially built then resemble in the middle of the season. I give him props being a 2nd year coach, doing what he could do best with a young team.
I feel like the Bulls organization seems to like getting younger talent and then not do much about it unless it involves starting over again, kind of like taking 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

I can't speak for others, but in my case, I'm definitely not forgetting how bad he was.
But there's a way to get rid of a guy, and the way the Bulls are doing it doesn't exactly scream "class" to me, so what kind of message do you think that sends to any potential replacement?

"Good" PR by the Bulls would be to not spread rumors about your former coach and just releasing a plain jane statement that you decided to part ways (hell, even say it was a mutual thing) and you are now moving forward with your coaching search. Period.

I think any replacement is looking at Rose, Noah and a potential star FA and doesn't really care what happened to Vinny

Exactly, as much as you might not like Vinny as a coach:
1. He's not a bad guy, and definitely doesn't deserve to be thrown under the bus by a team that made a mistake in hiring him anyway (or at least knew exactly what they were getting into.)
and
2. Having the guy attacked by his GM and then slandered in the media after his firing tells any potential candidates that 'hey, we're ready to pay you, treat you like ****, and then pay you out the door'.

Re: AM 670 (Jason Goff)/CBS 2: Vinny Fired
It's weird how my thought pattern has changed on Vinny.
In December, I wanted him fired so badly that I was livid that the Bulls management didn't fire him when the Bulls were in their free fall. Now I still don't think Vinny is all that great as an X and O's coach, but I like many feel bad for him for dangling in the wind, trying to do his job while everyone looked at him as dead man walking. I gained a lot of respect for the way he handled the situation, a LOT of respect. I can't say that I would have handled the situation with such grace and poise, even if I knew a future job depended on how I reacted. That said, the respect I earned was for him as a person, not as a bball coach. I do give kudos and credit for the improvement of Rose and Noah, but everything else was very meh. That said, I really do wish him the best, and I will be rooting for him in his next role, unless he does to a team I hate.

I don't think Paxson needs to be taking credit for Rose blossoming. It's just not necessary. And he's not the coach.
Having said that, this was pretty funny:
If you never heard it, much more entertaining on the audio (fun starts at 9:30).
http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/n ... id=4599244
Funny aside, even this interview shows the split between Vinny's mentality of trying to win games, and Bulls fans (and the organization's) desire to see the groundwork being laid for Rose to be a superstar.
Having said that, this was pretty funny:
S: DRose at the end of the game, Vinny.
V: Why do you say that?
S: Cuz he's your best player.
V: Well what does that mean though?
S: Well that means he's your best player.
V: Why do you say that though?
S: You don't think Derrick Rose is your best player?
V: Yeah he's my best player, but he's still young, he's still growing, confidence is a big thing in this game, statistically at the end of games last year Derrick wasn't our most productive player.
S: But when you win a championship he's gotta be and this is the way he learns, by being on the court with the game on the line, you don't agree with that?
V: I agree with that, but you think we're ready to win a championship with all these young guys?
S: This is the learning ground, right now.
V: Yeah, OK, well you keep doing your job, and I'll work on mine, and... (Silvy cuts him off)
S: Just my tip the Vinny, as a Bulls fan, I want to see DRose at the end of the game.
V: Yeah, he's in there.
S: OK.
V: Allright.
Waddle: Thanks, Vinny.
V: Goodbye.

Look, the Bulls have never exactly been "class." If you guys haven't noticed, not very many organizations have "class." It's the NBA. Nobody cares. There's nothing surprising about what we did or how we did it. It's how we've always been. But at the end of the day, we have a major market, an immensely popular team, two big-time up and coming young stars, a plan and a desire for an experienced coach. That's enticing for anyone, no matter what they say now. It's a damn hard offer to refuse if you're a head coach, no matter what happened to Vinny

OK fine, then put it this way - VDN publicly stayed classy, while the management made no such effort, basically trashing and bashing him (literally, lol) from December onwards. I think when stacked up against this front office, it wouldn't be hard for VDN to look better than them (and that says more about our management than it does about VDN).
Perception can sometimes become reality, as many here have been eloquently noting over the past few weeks.

Vinny wasn't a bad guy he was just stubborn, arrogant, and dumb.
Calling timeouts at the wrong times, calling the wrong plays, and having no clue what to do at the end of games.
Any Coach with NBA experience would be better then Vinny.
