Why not just load up on old vets. Lest say:

C: Jeff Foster
PF: Elton Brand:
F: Boris Diaw
SG: Stephen Jackson
PG: Andre Miller

...get it done Ed.

I want someone here for 3+ season. I see coaches like Collins, Jackson, and other assistants are not going to last more than 2 seasons. So I would go with Avery Johnson. I see him being here long term.

What does everybody think about Philly showing interest in Mark Jackson?

I'd like it. Wouldn't choose him over Avery, though.

I like Jackson, and I'm fine with them at least having a conversation with him and hearing out his coaching philosophies, but I'm still on the fence about him as far as him being the right guy to take over this team. He was a smart player and knows his hoops, but he has zero coaching experience... not even as an assistant. I'd prefer Laimbeer, Johnson, Budenholzer, and probably a few others over Jackson.

Jackson is the worst candidate in my opinion, as you said he has no coaching experience whatsoever. I just don't think being a smart basketball player translates the same way as a coach. I mean hell, anyone who's seen him commentate knows the dude says some dumb **** regarding bball alot. He's gotta at least earn his stripes as an assistant before he gets a HC job.

Per Sixers PR Twitter:
http://twitter.com/preston76

@Sixers met w/Avery Johnson today in HOU regarding head coach position; Prez/GM Ed Stefanski terms it "informative." More soon at Sixers.com

I also like what Sam Mitchell to say to Dei Lynam.
http://www.csnphilly.com/05/03/10/Sixer ... feedID=694

I especially appreciate his opinion on limiting Dala's 3's and how to handle Sammy. As TK76 put it elsewhere, it is nice to hear talk of player development instead of W/L(i.e. "Uptown", 'Playoffs")

Ed Stefanski interview of Avery Johnson in the world of no B.S.:

ES: Hi Avery, thanks for flying in. We realize you have no interest in our coaching job, but this way I can at least tell people we are putting in due diligence and going after the big names.

AJ: No problem. Now I can tell the Hornets that they are in a bidding war... How much should I tell them the Sixers are offering for my services?

ES: Well we were going to offer you 2M per year and all you can eat fries and dogs and an autograph session with the Dance team.... but why don't you tell them 7M per, that way we both look good.

AJ: Sounds like a plan... so how long do we have to talk in order to convince people this was not a sham?

ES: I'm sure this has been enough- its the Sixers, not like the owners or fans are paying much attention anyway. BTW, do you want to catch the Flyers game? Because otherwise I don't think you will get to see Mr. Snider.

AJ: No thanks. I have to get back to New Orleans to meet with my real estate agent. But thanks for having me out and best of luck finding a coach.

But an NBA job is rare, so you figure there must be some great candidates.

But if this team tries to sell itself as a rapid turnaround winner then they are setting the next coach up to fail. Is there another team in any sport, at any level that will have gone through 8 coaches in 8 years like the Sixers? That is a special level of failure. Its like Snider has ADD.

Considering that Del Negro is being fired tomorrow, it makes me think that the odds of Avery Johnson coming here just got smaller. I have to think that Johnson will probably prefer to go to NO first with Chicago as option #2 and the Sixers as the 3rd option.

Also, what the hell is going on in NJ? Are they interviewing anyone? Also, I wonder if someone like Johnson or Mark Jackson will prefer to wait until Atlanta is eliminated to see if they can land with the Hawks instead. From the names that are being mentioned, I think my order currently goes Jackson, Collins, Johnson, and Casey. Not that I want him, but I'm still shocked that Byron Scott's name isn't being mentioned.

You guys are all giving Ed too much credit! Big time!

When I saw the post about a "true SG", my immediate thoughts were: Ginobili or Michael Redd here we come!

I can't understand the logic behind their draft plans. At all. We are not the Boston Celtics. We don't have a Kendrick Perkins. We don't have a Paul Pierce level player. And there is nobody in the NBA available for a trade for the 6th pick that is on Ray Allen's level. Not to mention, we don't have an Al Jefferson and tons of other young guys with potential to trade for a Kevin Garnett level player!!

I would be ok with trading our pick plus Speights/Lou/Thad for a vet SG, but the list I've seen so far is not appealing and certainly nobody on that list is worth the 6th pick.

I gotta disagree...Joe Johnson would be worth the #6 and a young player. I'd wave Thad and the #6 for Joe Johnson.

 Joe Johson is a free agent.

Do you think he is pushing Atlanta for a sign and trade to come here, and all we need to do is give up Thad and the 6 and it is done (who cares about salary cap math, anyway)?
He isn't coming here. If for some crazy reason he desperately wanted Philly over all the other teams with cap space (and apparently without), and we needed to trade for him, why give up the 6 pick to Atlanta that will lose him anyway?

Also:

He isn't coming here.

First off, I doubt it's even a pipe dream, but I would think you would have to do a sign and trade that would probably have to involve Iguodala to get this done. If Johnson wanted more money than he could get in FA, an S&T could accomplish that with Iguodala going back in return, perhaps along with something else, but ATL already has a bunch of swing men, so why would they do that unless they are absolutely convinced they will lose Johnson for nothing?

I'd gladly throw in a reasonable sweetener to pull off a Brand for Redd trade.

Brand + Thad for Redd + Future #1.

That future #1 will be good :)

I would like to see what Mark Jackson would do for us as a coach. I don't think we get Avery Johnson. I think he's destined for New Orleans. Mark Jackson should be a possibility though. He's got an east coast backround and I think he could be a good coach in the right circumstances. I know him coming here would be a tough start to his career as a coach.
