Chuck was talking smack on us last night at halftime of the Cavs/Celtics. He was saying how terrible this situation is and how his friend Doug Collins shouldn't go for it.

was he in the wrong for doing so though? Salt in the wound, but completely true

I know him coming here would be a tough start to his career as a coach.
I agree I would have no problem with Marc Jackson taking the Sixer job. It's not like the team is going anywhere, so as he gets his coaching feet wet, we can build the team up.

The longer this goes on, the more i feel like the sixers are going to get the 'left-over' coach. Probably NOH/CHI get their guy (avery/collins) Nets get another respectable canidate, sixers are left as bottom feeder for whoever is left.
WHich is why i'd much rather Ed come out and hire a guy like Laimbeer (or even Jackson maybe) quickly, so it seems like we get the guy we want, and not the left overs.

First off, I doubt it's even a pipe dream, but I would think you would have to do a sign and trade that would probably have to involve Iguodala to get this done. If Johnson wanted more money than he could get in FA, an S&T could accomplish that with Iguodala going back in return, perhaps along with something else, but ATL already has a bunch of swing men, so why would they do that unless they are absolutely convinced they will lose Johnson for nothing?
To get something for him back instead of losing him outright to the Knicks or other team with cap space.
cap numbers can be worked on with the right pieces.
i know it's a total pipe dream, but he was on the list of vet shooting guards that was posted.

Sixerfan: Dalembert=Perkins. For all of Daly's faults, he had a great year last year and he's a consistent 10/10/2 BPG guy.
Honestly, I want Sam Mitchell to be this team's coach. I love what he said as it relates to the roster:
The part about Iggy not shooting so many 3's and attacking the basket was gold. As was giving Dalembert free reign to block shots and rebound and not care if he fouls out. That'll allow Daly to play at 2003-levels. Which was the best he played.
Granted, for that we need a good back-up center. And if we get a pure SG, maybe Iggy will stop trying to shoot more 3's.

I'm a bit torn on Mitchell. Although I do like some of the things he said in the article(he sounds like he actually knows what he's doing), I'm just not sure if he's the type coach Philly needs.

Sam is a potential 10/10/2 guy. But his actual averages of 8/8/1.9 aren't so great. he is productive while on the floor, but his other faults, inconsistency and fouls have kept him from reaching his potential nearly every year. And its hard to imagine he will finally really tap into his potential in his 9th season.
In his 8 NBA seasons:
He's done all three only one year.
2 blocks/game: 3X
10 pts/game: 1X
10 reb/game: 2X

Joe Johnson is turning 29 this summer. So why would you be willing to give up the 6th pick and Thad for him?

Because our GM recently said we a only a few moves away from being a very good basketball team next year... meaning our GM is either in desperation mode, misguided or both.

It's pretty frustrating that competence in the front office is such a rare thing in NBA basketball.

But with 8 head coaches in 8 years the Sixers are in a league of their own.
You'd be hard pressed to find that much turnover in any sport at any level. Even Little League teams have more consistency.

This is the most frustrating part of it all, they are delusional. They want to get Evan Turner in the draft - great, but then you need to trade Iggy and Thad because Turner is not a very good outside shooter (although a very good player) and needs a shooter on the other wing to compliment him.
What they really need is Favors or Wall, super high upside guys who could be superstars in this draft. If they have a chance at Favors and pass him up because of the ghost of Elton Brand playing at PF that would be the last straw for me.
If they don't get a top three pick, they should be looking to trade up there. Unless the ''vet' they are targeting is named LeBron they are out of their minds and looking for a bunch of first round exits, not a championship.
It is time to fully admit the Brand experiment has failed utterly, that Thad and Iggy are not compatible and taht rebuilding around Jrue and a top three pick this year, as they shed salary for other young pieces, is the only way to go. A lame duck GM will never do that.

Re: The Coaching Thread/SF76 Update On Page 17
I wonder if the 'veteran shooting guard' they're thinking of trading for is Rudy Fernandez. Would he be worth parting with a lottery pick and a bad contract for? Sounds like he's not real happy in Portland.
On a different note, I've always liked Sam Mitchell as a HC. Hearing what he has to say makes the thought of hiring that much more appealing. Sounds like he has motivational skills like Mo Cheeks but with a better grasp of using rotations ans X's and O's.

Rudy would be a nice plan B if you can't get Mayo... but no way you involve the #6 pick in that equation.
Rudy + #12 for #6 + Speights (or Thad) would be a bad move IMO. We don't need another late lottery pick. We need a high lottery pick with star potential. We have not used a pick above #9 in a long time.

I would not involve our pick in a trade for Rudy unless the apocalypse happened and we landed 9th. Even that is a stretch. Personally I think he is overvalued and overrated. He is an okay player but doesn't really do it for me.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

I think Rudy is a nice glue guy and would be a great fit with guys like Iguodala and Holiday, but no way do I trade #6 for him. If we trade a pick that could draft us star talent, then we damn well better get star talent in return. Rudy doesn't quite do it for me.

Lol. Stefanski's statement is the truth. The question is, as I'm sure he's asking himself right now, does this team still have the assets to make these moves? My answer: No. We'd have to luck out in the draft, and get a REALLY good coach (whoever that may be).
