In addition to Gholston moving to DE, his contract has been restructured and has been made incentive-laden.

Pats cut Adalius Thomas. Should we pursue with Jason Taylor signed?

Big John Henderson was also just cut by the Jags.

If Thomas is cut, wouldn't the Jets pursue him to fill Gholston's trail of moving to DE?
One DE is Taylor, the other Gholston no?

I would think Henderson would be a better idea.
Jason Taylor and Adalius Thomas (who's 33 years old) play the same position (OLB) and it appears the Jets have already agreed to give Jason Taylor all the QB's he can sack. Would probably cause some contention if they also add Thomas.
Henderson (only 31 years old) would help shore up the Jets run defense at DT and force the opposing team to throw (bwahahaha). This is one big tough 6'7" 330lb mofo. Here's a clip of Henderson getting "psyched up" for a game.

Re: Official Offseason Thread: Latest - Mini Camp Begins...
Mini-camp begins...
Here's a recap from David Wyatt of ganggreennation.com:
Good to hear the Jets are doing alright so far, especially Wilson and DuCasse.
Here's a recap from David Wyatt of ganggreennation.com:
Taking all this from the Rex Ryan news conference that happened a few minutes ago, rough notes so keep that in find:
-Joe McKnight looked good running the football. Had some issues catching and threw up on the field at one point. Rex Ryan put it down to a little anxiety etc
-Kyle Wilson looked real good out there. Ryan was also impressed with try-outs, Jeff Cumberland (TE/WR), Cory Reamer (LB) who he said was a real bright guy...
-A few problems today with the C/QB exchange because the center that was supposed to be in camp had a bad back and couldn't go. Players obviously not knowing the offensive/defensive plans
-Best drills were Westhoff drills on kicks, Rex was very impressed with Nevada OLB Kevin Basped. Looks like he has really got a shot. So did John Connor and Kyle Wilson.
-Brian Jackson looked good but hurt his hamstring.
-Santonio Holmes incident was blown out of proportion a little bit, but he should of turned off his Ipod when asked. He has been excellent so far though with voluntarily drills. Also been working hard in the classroom with Mark Sanchez and Schotty.
-Not sure how Donovan Warren didn't get drafted. Every year there are UDFA's who can play in the league a long time. More free agents than first round picks that have 10 year careers or more. Not about where you get drafted, but going in there and competing. Warren is smart, and will be playing at corner and safety, but his best shot will be at safety. Donovan Warren was on Jets front board for players to be drafted.
-McKnight can do some of the things Leon did. Flex him out as a receiver, run him from the backfield, just get the ball in his hands. Got a lot of wiggle, a lot of moves and a lot of talent. Don't want to compare to Leon 100% right now, but he can really help us.
Rex didn't give McKnight #25, and he doubts anyone thought of that, just what the media makes it.
Jets had McKnight rated 'very highly' on draft day.
-Every year is a different team. Chemistry is what it is. Offensive chemistry is just replacing two starters, last year we replaced 4 starters and 9 players overall, and the chemistry was fine. 20th in the league in offense in 2009 was not acceptable. Wants them to get better, wants the D to cause more turnovers. Team mates never happy to see team mates go, but Rex makes decisions where he needs to improve the football team. Not worried about team chemistry, his teams always play hard. Came here to win, never came here to be average.
-Team is always going to be ground a pound, but not have the opportunity to do things in the passing game. Having all the guys out there going to be a problem for defenses. Looks at it from a defensive point of view when looking at who to bring in on the offensive side of the ball. Holmes has been dangerous, LT is special and will give us everything he has. JT gives the Jets the chance to close out games in the 4th quarter. 4th quarter sacks are huge and that's what JT brings.
-Will always listen to anything regarding AD. Not sure right now, will definitely consider him. Had some big years with the Ravens. Use him all over the place as a DE/ILB/OLB he is a special player. -Safe to say he wants the market to establish value.
-With AD we will end up 1st in the league in defense, without him we will end up 1st in the league.
-Vlad is a big guy. Looked real good in drills with Bill Callahan. Very big, very powerful, knocked someone off the ball 8 yards on a run play. Did commit a false start, but the rhythm wasn't too good. He has to calm down a little bit, he was excited. Not enough smiles of the rookies faces today, need to relax and have fun. Was practicing at LG.
-Commissioner is a good guy, but Rex hasn't hugged him yet (in response to a question about the commish getting hugs on draft days....not sure the point of that question)

Re: Official Offseason Thread: Latest - NYJ Restructure Gholston
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan spoke to receiver Santonio Holmes, who was the subject of an incident report filed Thursday night when a flight attendant reported he did not follow her instruction on a plane to Pittsburgh.
Holmes told his coach that it was a misunderstanding.
Holmes told Ryan he was sleeping in the back of the plane as the flight attendant woke him and asked him to turn off his iPod. He told Ryan that he did, but didn't take out his earbuds."He was tired so he never took out the ear things," Ryan said. "So he laid back down and the lady came back and asked again and he said, 'I did, I can hear every word you're saying. I have it off.' "
Holmes even took the earbuds out and asked a woman sitting next to him to confirm there was no sound coming out. When the plane landed, Holmes was asked to wait to speak with police officers, who didn't file charges and considered the matter closed.
"When Santonio told me, I totally believe him," Ryan said. "It's one of those things I guess, but I believe Santonio and I look forward to him being a Jet and playing here."
An initial report yesterday said that Holmes was escorted off a plane after being disruptive. That report was inaccurate, according to the incident report released by the Allegheny County Police Department and a follow-up e-mail.
"He was asked to remove his iPod [at one point], in which he complied," the e-mail read. "There's no further information to report."
There was some confusion as to why the department e-mail said he complied, but the initial incident report said Holmes had to be reminded to follow instructions from the flight crew. Holmes' version of events appears to clear up that contradiction.
Holmes, the 2009 Super Bowl MVP, was traded by the Pittsburgh Steelers for a fifth-round pick in part because of his troubles off the field. He is suspended for the first four games of this season after violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Re: Official Offseason Thread: Latest - NYJ Restructure Gholston
Joe McKnight continued to struggle in the heat today. A half-hour into the two-hour morning workout, he was taking a knee in the middle of the field. Ten minutes later he was on all fours under the uprights as the Jets trainers applied wet towels to his head and back.
"He's fighting through it," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "It's funny, every time I look around he's got a wet towel around his neck and he's got [RB coach] Anthony [Lynn] barking all over him and then he's making one mistake after another -- and then you put the ball in his hand and he's pretty good. How 'bout just go right, Joe? He's fighting through it. Sometimes it takes a player a little longer to play like a Jet."
To his credit, McKnight made it though the first practice. He dropped four balls in the 7-on-7 practice, including a few that hit him on the numbers. When asked about a pretty awful rookie camp performance, Ryan recalled that second-year RB Shonn Greene didn't impress a lot of people last year but ended up being pretty good.
"I don't think we need to overreact in all this."
• • •
Ryan said that QB Mark Sanchez was steadily improving after knee surgery.
"We're certainly not going to rush him all the way back, but he's doing everything," Ryan said. "He's itching to go; he can't stand it. He's throwing the ball some and he looks great. He's doing everything we're asking him to do. ... I'd love for him to do that last minicamp if at all possible."
When asked how the Jets were going to fare without Sanchez for many of the OTAs and minicamps, Ryan had this to say:
"Just gives opportunity to the other guys step up. Maybe we can figure out how to rank those other guys cause there'll be some good competition there."
Ryan said he like veteran QB Mark Brunell, but they can't sign him until July 22 unless another team signs one of the Jets' current free agent. "He's really a class act I've gone against him a bunch," Ryan said. "We were interested in him because I think he would've been a good mentor to our guys."
• • •
Cory Reamer, a linebacker from Alabama, got a mention from Ryan. TEs Jeff Cumberland and Michael Owen had a nice catch or two in 11s.
And now heading out for the afternoon session.

Re: Official Offseason Thread: Latest - NYJ Restructure Gholston
After years of Pop Warner, fighting for a spot on the high school varsity, being recruited to a college team and enduring the longest NFL draft in modern history, a crop of rookies arrived at team minicamps across the country.
For many of them, it’ll be their last shot at a professional career.
“Every rep matters,” said TE Michael Owen, one of the Jets hopefuls who will complete the rookie minicamp Sunday and stood out for his receiving skills.
A few roster players were on hand to take part in the drills. Their job was to provide a little stability when it came to plays, but those players know they aren’t too far removed from the rookies they are helping.
“Pretty much you’re in the same boat as them,” Jets second-year defensive lineman Ty Steinkuhler said. “I’m still fighting for a job just like them. You have one year under your belt so you help these guys out more.”
The Jets set up extra lockers in the middle of the locker room, and a lot of the rookies had to share. Steinkuhler could relate to the nerves that some of the rookies admitted to.
“You could easily be let go after this weekend,” Steinkuhler said. “Usually you’re so nervous you don’t want to screw up. All these guys know how to play football, it’s just a matter of not getting too nervous.”
Yesterday, when fourth-round running back Joe McKnight took a knee in the morning practice while feeling awful, running back Mickey Dean took a knee next to him in a moment of solidarity.
“It was to support him because he’s my teammate,” Dean said.
Dean, a sturdy runner out of Arkansas Pine-Bluff, had a few solid carries himself. He looked down at the Jets playbook in his locker with his name written on the front.
“I want to keep my name on it,” Dean said.

Kinda disappointed by McKnight, you'd think he'd at least be in shape with the draft and the combine and all, if it was a virus fair enough, but this is inexcusable.

Re: Official Offseason Thread: Latest - NYJ Restructure Gholston
LaDainian Tomlinson hasn't given up on being a starting running back in the NFL. He says the Jets don't want him to, either.
Tomlinson, signed this offseason and thought to be veteran insurance behind second-year player Shonn Greene, told ESPN Radio in Dallas he's prepared to compete for the starting job.
"I think at this point in my career, people put this label and this title on you once you get to a certain age: 'Yeah, he has to be a backup now.' I don't believe that. I absolutely don't believe that," Tomlinson, 31 next month, said Thursday. "You determine your role on the football field, and that's what the Jets have been so great about, allowing me to do that. "They didn't put a label on me at all. They didn't say 'You know what? You're going to be a backup.' They said, 'No, you're going to prove what you can do on the football field,' and that's all I can ask."
The former Chargers star, thought to be one of the classiest players in the NFL, stopped far short of claiming the job should be his.
"The thought process is kind of like when you go to college, when you graduate from high school and you go to college, you don't look to go in and start," Tomlinson said. "If it happens, it happens. But you go in to find a role on the team, to be part of something special, and that's where I am."
Tomlinson's new Jets jersey reportedly was the sixth-best seller in the NFL last month.

LT has the perfect attitude for success with this team and fanbase. He'll be a great mentor for Green and Mcknight. Any more word on Ducasse and the battle to start. A friend of mine helped move Faneca out of his home and Faneca autographed an old Steelers brace he had for another friend of ours who's birthday is this week (he's a Pittsburgh fan).

Jersey guys actually. Funny thing is the Pittsburgh fan is probably the coolest fan I've seen. He's so used to being surrounded by Jets and Giants fans that he supports the teams unless they're playing the Steelers. When we got Faneca he called me up pissed to tell me that we just robbed his squad and then did the same with the Holmes trade (I didn't know about it until he told me to check out ESPN). When Faneca signed with Zona he texted me to say that dude was gonna make a come back and tell me that our friend might be helping him move out...couple of days later that's a picture text and facebook mobile upload of this...

That's awful nice of Faneca. Don't expect to see a Steeler fan in NJ, normally Giants and Jets no?
Most people in Toronto are bandwagons (Saints, Colts, Vikes, Eagles, Chargers), but I support my Jets.
