Im fine with the draft, and i'd like to pick up Zoubek, instead of giving him giving him to the Pacers-in returns he get my 2nd next year....

If you don't like your pick you can always trade what you got for what you wanted.

im not sure they would do a patterson for whoever trade and I might have to give up a bunch of value for whoever where in real life id just choose the guy I wanted

someone 7 foot would be good for the Hornets not another undersized pf

I'd rather not just allocate the draft picks based on draftexpress. I'd like to do a regular draft, with short time limits, and if someone doesn't pick in the allotted time, then they get whoever draftexpress has them taking.

We dont have enough GMs at the moment to run the draft and as jc suggested it takes time to run a draft.

But what if we want to trade draft picks?

I like this idea, just make a very fast time limit (each pick an hour) either be on at your time, send a list or get draftexpress pick. Even though I have no 1st round pick and want one or 2

My biggest problem with just going by draftexpress' mock is that some of the picks don't make much sense. Their mock is much better in the 2-3 weeks just prior to the draft, when they start taking into account team needs and whatnot. For instance, as of now they have the Pistons taking Ed Davis while Greg Monroe is still on the board. IMO Monroe makes much more sense there. Plus it doesn't account for any possible trades that could occur during the draft, assuming that everyone keeps all their picks.

Well we can let MJ decide how to draft.

In the meantime, we need to start recruiting for more teams, we're only about half full!

this is the reason i suggested my timetable. we would be doing 2009-2010 again and not 2010-2011.

and we would actually do our draft like 2 days before the real one.

if you want to do 2010-2011 then we will have to assign the players by the pick. doing two drafts and not having any information for the next years draft makes doing the draft for 2011 pointless.

so imho its either.

1. we are doing 2009-2010 season and 2010 draft

2. we are doing 2010-2011 season, 2009 draft players are assigned and we are starting with FA, and doing the 2011 draft.

#1 is just so much easier to do because of the LeBron Issue.

Let's enjoy the playoffs and start after the draft. It will give me (and those helping me out) sometime to work out the kinks and we'll run with the 2010-2011 season.

Works for me.

So can we trade until then, anything not including the 2010 picks?.....Then just pick up the game from there or should we just stay still until after the draft...

So what exactly is the plan?

Also, the list of teams needs updating, as a few more have been taken now.

Can we get some sort of definitive timeline so that we know exactly what is going on? Are we starting with 2009-10 salaries or 2010-11 (I would prefer the second, but I don't really care as long as the game starts soon).

Here is my proposal.

Do a shorter version of GM-a-Team this time.

1. Simplify draft process as discussed previously. Assign picks using latest draftexpress mock draft.
2. Use 2010-2011 Salaries and trades can already begin.
3. Free Agency - Until end of May. FA can only begin after all teams have GM's already.
4. Trading Period - 1st week to 3rd week of June.
5. Voting Period - Last week of June.

Free Agency.
1. Create a tier system (Tier 1 - Superstars and All-stars, Tier 2 - Role Players worth more than Minimum, Tier 3 - Bench filler eg. minimum guys).
2. Tier I FA signings will be done by a panel since marquee players are involved (MJ and say 2 others) . Each team are allowed to submit one proposal each for each FA's including sign and trade scenarios and pro's and cons. The panel will judge where that FA will sign in decending order (so. Bron first, then Wade, etc.)
3. Tier 2 - This should be done per position and panel might no longer be needed. Say all PG's first. List will be posted by MJ and their preferred salary offers. Each team will submit offers and MJ will select which is the best for such FA. Then SG, SF.... etc.
4. Tier 3 - MJ will have the final say for FA signings.

Tier 1 and Tier 2 FAs should not be traded during the game tenure. This defy the purpose of FA signing in the team they chose.

I hate the Draftexpress idea. Just have every team send a list of five or so players for each of their picks on a Thursday and post the results that Sunday. It's quick and teams won't be pissed when they get stuck with Daniel Orton in the lottery. I'm willing to help with (or entirely do) this process if necessary.

EDIT - Here is my suggestion
Start Trading on Thursday (13th) with 2010-11 salaries (in case anyone wants to trade picks).
On the 20th (the next Thursday) send in lists for draft and stop trading until that Sunday (23rd).
On the 23rd resume trading until the 30th of the next month, then end trading and do write-ups/voting. I would prefer that we not do a 2011 draft because most fans don't know much about that draft class, just look at the draft picks as positive assets when grading.

EDIT 2 - the timeline might need to be moved back a week, but we would end just after the draft and be ready to start a new game with each team's rookies.
