Let's talk Robertson

Post#1 » by j4remi » Thu May 6, 2010 11:34 pm

He looked great in the post season, albeit on limited work. Before that, I wasn't a fan and I certainly don't think he did anything to earn a long leash. So far this season his numbers are disgustingly bad. He doesn't seem to have much command, he's giving up bombs (not specifically homers but hard hits), and he hasn't gone 3 innings worth of batters without giving up a run. He hasn't just been bad, he's been horrific! Our starter's have been brilliant and our pen has been, ehhh, but improving. He hasn't.

Basically, I realize he's only pitched in 9 games, but three straight games of giving up 2 runs and some live arms in triple A have me feeling like...maybe we should send him down or get rid of him altogether.

BTW, I really like Boon Logan's potential in the few outtings he's had. Not enough to have a defined opinion, but I like him so far at least.

His location seems to be off (could be mechanics) and once he falls behind the hitter and gets into trouble he is placing the ball right where they can hit it. It looked good last season and has shown flashes this year but he needs to settle down and find his location.

I'd rather see what Melancon can do at this level though, being completely honest. He could sort his mechanics in a short stint at triple A or with sessions outside of actual games.

Dave will settle in. He looked good in the whole second half last year. He's having a bit of a step back but I think he'll turn it around. It's a long season.

I'm surprised you like Boone Logan over him - that guy has walked every hitter in a big spot I've seen so far this year.

Robertson looked great most of last season & the post season. No idea why he can't locate this year.

Not that I think he's great now, but the dude throws flames. He's gotta get his command down but he can become a real weapon. I have faith that Marte will come around, I'm not sure why, but I think Robertson is the one who should go while we bring up another arm for the future.
