I was thinking maybe we can make a deal for him on draft night, just one of my fantasy scenarios.
Assuming the Nets go 1st and choose Turner instead of Wall, Minnesota's got either Flynn or Sessions for swapping.
I'm just thinking maybe he'll look good in this team, and be a starter again like when he was still in Milwaukee. 3 years, not that big contract. Well, just a thought.
IND trades:
TJ Ford
2010 #10th pick
MIN trades:
Ramon Sessions
2010 #16th pick
2010 2nd rd. pick
It would give the Wolves an expiring contract and a 2nd lottery pick.
The Pacers would get a starting pg, a lower pick, and another 2nd rounder.
How about Sessions?

Re: How about Sessions?
Sessions showed a lot of promise on the Bucks. He's in a terrible position right now. This wouldn't be a bad trade for us at all, but I don't know if Minny would do it, simply because they love their PG's, and they'd be adding contract money that I'm sure they don't want.

Re: How about Sessions?
I'm not sure about Minny from a different perspective. There comes a time when you can accumulate too many assets, and they're getting pretty close right now. They already have two very promising overseas guys and (even after this deal) 4 picks in this draft. Take for example:
Flynn/Ford
Ellington/
Brewer/Gomes
Love/Jawai
Jefferson/Milicic/Hollins
With Pekovic and Rubio overseas and picks #2 (atm), #10, #23 and #56
There's no Kevin Durant to take this young team to the next level. Perhaps if they get a real stud in this draft, but that's no guarantee. They need some further developed players imo.
I'd assume they'd either rather keep Sessions to groom some talent, or use him with other assets to get some further developed players. While I'm sure they wouldn't argue with adding another lottery pick, I'm sure they are looking in different directions for trades.

The Wolves are sitting on #2 (no higher than 1, no lower than 5), #16 (CHA), #23 (UTA), #45, #56.
I think that the Thunder have an option to take pick 32 (I know I would). The press releases here were saying that the Wolves could have as many as 6 picks so I'm just assuming that OKC decides when they take a 2nd rounder from MIN (Etan Thomas trade).
It would seem that the plan is to use a couple of low priced assets (Gomes, Sessions...) and possibly a pick to pull a difference-maker with a large contract off of a team that is strapped for cash. I doubt that Ford would be seen as a difference maker...

Re: How about Sessions?
Well yeah, i realized they can get someone better than Ford for Sessions and a pick. I was just wondering should Wall fall into their hands, what are they going to do with Sessions? He would be an expensive third string pg on their team behind Wall and Flynn. Pretty sure, they'll be looking for trades but you're all right, they could get someone better than Ford with all their assets.
If we only have Ford, Foster, and the 10th pick to offer, then we are not in a very competitive position to acquire a starting pg via trades.

When is Rubio coming over the pond? Next year or is he staying in Europe for another season?

Re: How about Sessions?
When Minn signed Sessions they were in pure assets accumulation mode. After having drafted Flynn and Rubio its pretty hard to imagine that Sessions was ever viewed as anything other than a future trade piece. At what they were able sign him I think most agreed he was a bargain. He is probably still viewed that way so he has continues to have positive value. I would be surprised if when he was signed or even now if Minn has a preconceived notion of the trade in which he would be involved.
He is basically a trade sweetener. If Minn really likes someone available at 10 who they view as unlikely to be there at 16 this deal gets done easily.
Names that continually come up as being available at 10 are Patterson, Udoh, Monroe maybe Davis and now Sanders. At 10 you will have some choice. At 16 maybe one of them is left. Today I'm not sure I see enough upside in Sessions to give up having a choice rather than taking what's left.

I'm a huge Wolves fan... 0% chance of happening despite a creative proposal. Wolves are completely in asset collection mode, but I really believe that Sessions could be our starting PG next year. The plan is to lure Rubio over the year after next.
Sessions was intentionally not given a chance to start to allow Flynn to learn the system and develop. However, Sessions will be given the opportunity to fight for the starting spot next year. The idea of having Flynn come off the bench in a 6th man role (to prepare for being behind Rubio) will take action next year. Sessions will up his value next season by being our starter and that would make both Sessions and Flynn decent trade assets.
However, in the right deal, either one is on the table. I can assure you Kahn will not take back bad contracts like Ford unless we get into a much more complicated deal involving Danny Granger.

They have to get Rubio by 2011-12 or he becomes a free agent. There is a rumbling that his plan is to make (very good) money in Europe for the 3 seasons necessary to eliminate the Wolves' claim on him. Then he can come to the NBA and sign for whatever a team is willing to pay him.
I'm waiting to hear that his rights have been traded to the Lakers for Andrew Bynum or something like that this off-season - just picking a general big market, fairly big money guy to throw into the equation there.
I'll try to find the ESPN article about the draft rights loophole mentioned above and post that too. It's fascinating stuff.

Doesn't work that way.
So long as Minnesota keeps offering him a tender (rookie scale contract offer) each off-season, they will retain his rights. That could possibly change in the next CBA, but I'm sure everybody from the past CBA (meaning Rubio) would be grandfathered in.

Re: How about Sessions?
I heard one NBA reporter on radio today (i wanna say Chris Minnix of SI) and he said something like "Wolves fans will love watching Rubio when he's playing against them". They talked Rubio because Barcelona won today and won to advance to the Euro League final.
They didn't say much else but i take it the problem is Rubio doesn't want to be a Wolve, and with Flynn playing well, i doubt they will force Rubio to stay, and just trade him while his value is still high.

I'd consider that. Does Minny have 3 #1s this season? What about TJ and the #10 and our #2 for Sessions and the 2 lower Minny #1.

Minny doesn't go for that.
