Would 2.5 mill buy ur 1st?

Post#1 » by CDM88 » Sat May 8, 2010 9:50 am

"Sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski that the Hawks are willing to sell their first-round pick for $3 million, to help pay for Johnson's salary.

For the same reason, Atlanta will likely offer no more than a three-year contract between $1.8 million to $2 million per season to a possible successor to head coach Mike Woodson."

Just curious because im sure Buss would be willing to pay 2.5 for it ,and we can still offer someone 3mill in FA

That rumor was denied, but even so the cost to buy a first rounder is $3M.

I hope not. Selling picks is stupid and counterproductive. Wise drafting is the most affordable to improve an NBA team. If ownership is in a position where they need the proceeds of the sale to make payroll then they should probably let the high priced free agent walk and draft a SG that they'd have at a fixed low price for 4-5 years.

The poster child for selling picks is Phoenix. Go back and look at who they could have added to their roster if they were not pick dumpers and they would probable have a title or two by now.

I sure hope not. I would rather get a future pick if we can't afford to pay for a first rounder this year... and yeah, I think matching what others are willing to pay for Joe is a bad idea...

Keeping things simple, the Hawks not resigning Joe will open up lots of salary space.

Keep that draft pick, and get more if you can.

Not a good move on Joe's part not to have already resigned earlier this year, IMO.

I understand Miami dumping their pick this year to free up the cap hold, but sadly they wouldn't just give it to us.

I'd be willing to trade 2011's #1 (top 7 protected) and this year's 2nd rounder for Miami's 1st and 2 of their 2nds (#41 & #48). Miami's cap hold is reduced squeezing even more cap space out and they get to postpone that draft asset into a likely higher pick next season (Hawks would be acquiring picks to not resign Joe, so short term drop off in the record is why I project the 2011 pick as higher). While the 18th pick isn't that high, this is a very deep draft. With the 2 1sts and 2 2nds, I could draft a big (like an Alabi or Orton) and a SG as well (Anderson, Henry, Pondexter, etc) as 2 ready to contribute projects in the 2nd (Pittman, Crawford, Lawai, Jordan). That or have the ammo to possibly move up a few spots to get the right guy. I'm not thinking that I could draft Joe's replacement next year, but I'm looking at improving the talent base, changing the system, and maintaining financial sensibility with an eye on making a deeper run after the lockout.

If atlanta change coach
anyone from the Sun coaching staff should be consider...

This team without Bibby could be a Run -and Gun Team
JJ not the problem but there' no one to create Offensive for other at the Point...

I can't get over Management not picking Paul (to beat a dead Horse)

The Hawk are my second team from Mia live ATL. (Gwinnett)

Selling picks is not often done and seldom works out.

I see a lot of "ideas" where team X "buys a pick" but most years there's none for sale and when there is,there's often several teams happy to buy...and at the full $3 mill. I don't think it at all involves MLE,which the post implied.

Wise drafting IS the cost effective, best path. There is NO guarantee the guy taken at 9 is even as good as the guy at 20,or the guy at 40. ask GSW if Patrick O'Bryant>Monta Ellis.
CENSORED... No comment.

I wanted Deron Williams, but either way that was a draft mistake that will haunt the Hawks a long time.
