Aproximatley 3 years ago the sixers drafted a promising 19 year old forward named Thad Young.
Thads weakneses are still the same and his strenghths are still the same.
Im sure most of the fan base predicted that he would be a solid starting player by the time he was
22.It would be quite generous to label Thad a solid starting player in the NBA.

When you draft 19 yr olds, you need ot have a coaching staff in place that is ready to teach/develop young players. Mo didn't really have that (imo), and EJ didn't have a clue at all.
So i think it is, yet another, failure on the part of the FO to have their drafting department and their coaching department on different frequencies.

1. Just because one player has failed to tap into his potential, it does not mean all 19 year olds are doomed to never progress to be good starters.
2. Thad was a promising energy guy as a rookie who needed to improve almost all areas of his game. He was playing (undersized) PF, and yet was supposed to learn to be a SF... While Jrue played PG and really only needs to clean up on some T.O.'s to be a solid PG. The only big question is whether he maintains his solid shooting. He does not have to be 40% from 3pts, but he has to shoot well enough to keep a defense honest.
I understand how we can't be certain about Jrue's future, but what exactly is your concern? Did you watch him play the last 35 games of the year (since being put in the starting line-up Feb1st?)
last 35 games:
31 min, 11pts, 5 ast, 3 reb, 1.5 stl, 48% shooting, 41% 3pt shooting
Not saying that means he will be a star, but that is not bad at all for his 1st 3 months of regular minutes. Only his T.O. (2.9) need to go down. Don't see why 13/7/3.5/1.8 is unreasonable with a bit more seasoning, and that would make for a solid starting PG (and that ignores his potential to be a top defensive PG.)

Sixersinsider: You are terribly mistaken, but that doesn't surprise me. You have to be at least 17/5/5(irregardless of whether these numbers come at the expense of instead of the benefit of the team).
Let me remind you, when Thad Young came into the league, he had no handles to speak of, whatsoever NONE. And while his handles still need work, they are below average. Which is a long way from "non existent".
On the contrary, now going into 4 years since Iggy's been the #1 option, Iggy is STILL one of the worst isolation players in the NBA. Iggy is still terrible at slashing, he's still terrible at mid-range jump shooting. He's still below mediocre from the post.
There's one and only one thing about Iguodala that allows him to excel. His body and muscle strength. Iguodala could(if he wanted to) muscle his way to the paint. This is where/how he gets those foul calls.
But Iguodala doesn't use his superior muscle strength and his athleticism all the time. As a result, we see him hanging on the perimeter, because all else of isolation is either terribad or very bad for Iggy.

I can see the comparison. Thing is Billups came out of Colorado after 2 years & then was drafted by Boston. He was traded a couple times before he became a serviceable point guard. Holiday is developing much much faster.

No, hasn't been seen yet. One more reason to make us wonder about our FO, unless Thunder Dan is the defensive specialist that we don't know about. Personally, I think they are mentioning every name in the book so that this search doesn't come off looking like the farce that last year's coaching search looked like & was. I'm thinking that maybe the Sixers should start setting up interviews for dead guys like Red Holtzman, Red Auerbach, Alex Hannum, & maybe Adolph Rupp. That way, at least they'll be thorough.

Thunder Dan was perhaps the tannest man in the NBA and had a good jumper. Not sure how that translates to be a coach, but why not?
What about:

Name that man.

Thunder Dan is a surprise name. Kind of intriguing. Anyone know how long he's been an assistant now?

I am happy we are now looking at assistants who we believe could have potential as a head coach rather than recycling the same old guys who get canned over and over.

June 2008. He coached their summer league team one year...
Even with his lack of experience I'm excited about the possibility of him coaching here. He'll bring in a fast pace system and maybe he can teach some guys to shoot. I'd like to see someone more experienced get a shot, but maybe we could even grab him as our official assistant coach (I think he's behind some other guy) and make him our coach in waiting. Though I can't imagine someone wanting to leave the Suns if he's not going to be the head coach here.
We could always go with the Barkley GM Ewing Head Coach tandem and see if our front office could beat the real team in pickup basketball.

Hey don't discredit that...The Wing Bowl has a higher attendance than Sixers games. New halftime show every night could be Barkley vs _ _ _ _ _ _ in some sort of competition akin to his race against the old man.

I would Majerle as our head coach. I think he's got some knowledge of the game and seems to want to be a head coach in the NBA. The only way he comes here is as a head coach though.

Re: The Coaching Thread/Mitchell In; Scott Out
FINALLY, we're starting to look in the right direction for a coach. I love the idea of hiring Thunder Dan almost as much as the idea of hiring Laimbeer. If we're going to be turned down by the Kings of Unemployment then let's start to look at someone who hasn't had a shot.
