Rudy F?

Post#1 » by Sofia » Wed May 5, 2010 9:26 am

What are the thoughts on Rudy Fernandez?

Rumors seems to suggest he wants out of Portland, I think he could be a decent back up to EG and whoever we sign at SF, is capable of catching fire very quickly and is capable of starting if one of the starters miss a few games.

The only problem I would see with that is we don't have too much we can use for a trade. Maybe a 2011 1st rounder swap and send out a 2nd rounder?

I think he'd be a good fit into our squad. Him coming on-board may entice Steve Blake to resign with us as well.

He's worth roughly $1.3 million this upcoming season, but I have no idea what Portland would want in exchange. I don't think swapping first round picks would be a good idea, but possibly trading our second round pick to them in exchange may be worth it.

From what I've heard, Rudy wants starter minutes and has proven to be too one-dimensional (3pt shooter only). That would not fit well with the role he would likely get on this team.

OTH, it could be the Blazer's coaching that has him playing so poorly as of late. So, a change of scenery might help. He also has had back issues.

We need 3 point shooting like crazy, so I'm down. Could make a 3 guard rotation with gordon and davis, which would force gordon to learn how to become a bit of a distributor (might be a ugly process), and have a 2nd pg in the backup incase that plan falls apart.

badlyyyyyyyyy need 3 point shooting. Rudy's pretty good at that.

We could definitely use him. As Recently, 3 point shooting is a huge need for us. We currently have no backups under contract, and even if we retained some of our guys, we'd need a back up 2 and probably a 1. He may not start, but he could get a decent amount of minutes playing at either guard spot or even at sf in some occasions. The question would be what do we have to give up to get him?

That's the killer, isn't it? a TPE exemption would be ideal from our side :P

If you want an excellent 3pt shooter, then just resign S Blake. Blake is a better shooter & defender than Rudy. And, as a pass-first PG, he can do some much more. Rudy's ball handling is not all that great either.

Obviously, if we strike out in Free Agency this year, S. Blake will be a top priority to have come off the bench. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as offering him a contract and him signing it. He's arguably the best back-up PG in the league and some teams will be interested in signing him and having him be the starting PG for their team. If he gets the opportunity to start, he won't want to play behind B. Davis for X amount of years. Also, he may want to play for a contender, and Orlando has expressed interested in him.

Rudy F is not a PG. He's a SG.

A G/F combo of Rudy and Butler off the bench would be a great move this offseason

I want to make it clear, I'm a Blazer fan. I'm not trolling just trying to find a good deal for the Clipps and Blazers. It seems you guys have a ton of capspace (or could). It looks like Davis, Griffen and Kaman are the only guys under contract for next year. It looks like you guys have #2 and # 9 pick.

I think Portland could help you shed more salary, fill out your roster and help themselves in the process. That is assuming you want to move Davis.

Davis, #2

for

Prys, Webster, Rudy #22

I know it might seem as though the Clipps are getting hosed. I was thinking the trade would be contingent on a follow up trade or FA signing. Off the top of my head, Prys, Webster and #9 to Atlanta for Joe Johnson.

I think Atl kinda gets compensation for losing Johnson. Clipps flip Davis #2 and #9 for Johnson, Rudy #22, Portland takes on massive salary but Miller would be in his final year in PDX.

Just a thought.

Clippers currently have the number 8 pick. Number 2 currently belongs to the T-Wolves. We don't get their pick unless they pick above 10 (i.e. 11+). Griffin, Gordon, Kaman, Jordan & Davis are under contract. If we do end up with the number 2 pick, we'd take Turner (or Wall if he dropped for some reason) and would be very content with that pick. If Johnson wants to play here, he can sign outright and we wouldn't have to give up a lottery pick to get him.

Wolves can't drop below 10th anyway, so were' pretty much picking at wherever they finish next season, as that's when the protection comes off I believe?

2012 is when the protection expires and when we're likely to get the pick.
