Dallas Braden pitches a perfect game

Post#1 » by Susp3ct » Sun May 9, 2010 11:31 pm

good for him, and that too on mothers day. Lost his mother when he was a teen due to cancer, and what a gift he gave to his late mother. A very touching moment with his grandmother at the end

OAKLAND -- A's lefty Dallas Braden fired the 19th perfect game in Major League history on Sunday in Oakland's 4-0 win over the Rays at the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday.

Braden, who lost his mother to cancer as a senior in high school, needed just 109 pitches (77 strikes) -- including a seven-pitch seventh-inning, nine-pitch eighth and 12-pitch ninth -- to retire Tampa Bay's 27 batters, six of whom struck out against the Oakland southpaw. He entered the game averaging 1.70 walks per nine innings, which is the fourth-lowest mark in the American League.

I'm happy for the guy. For one, because people were giving him the "who the hell are you?" treatment after the A-Rod thing including A-Rod himself, so take that. And he's also a well-spoken guy who very knowledgeable about the game. He'll make a great analyst some day. As Joe Biden might say, a perfect game against Tampa is "a big **** deal"

Heh, not if it keeps happening annually...they seem to have difficulty with left-handed groundball types.

Come to think of it, most of the league has difficulty with left-handed groundball types. Cecil, Romero, or Zip: which one goes perfecto on the Rays next year?

he was ticked off when Arod walked over the mound between innings in a game between the Yankees and A's . appparently it is an unwritten rule.

burnett is stirring the pot now.

As he prepared for his start Sunday at Fenway, Yankees starter A.J. Burnett spotted highlights of Braden hugging his grandmother, Peggy Lindsey, who was present for the perfect game in Oakland.

"Grandma, I love you, but don't cross my mound!" Burnett cracked.

After he ignited a triple play, and walked on the pitcher's mound to get to the dugout and Braden yelled at him because he thought it was rude and A-Rod acted superior and said he was getting over his head.

Congrats to Dallas, he pitched a great game and he oughta send a message to A-Rod anyway.

Damn, I decided to sit him out on my fantasy team because he was against the Rays and got rocked in his last start. Teaches me I guess :(

I was reading some Yahoo blog comments and came across this mention of Fernando Valenzuela's perfect game and of the ump calling a 3rd strike on Vince Coleman because he showed bunt in the 9th. You guys think the ump was playing by the unwritten rules?? See 1:55 of this clip. Btw, Evan Longoria tried to bunt his way on yesterday.

Isn't it only a no-hitter if they have walks? ^ pretty messed up though.
