Gilbert's knee still a problem

Look what I found buried in the Post article about Gilbert nearing his release from the half-way house.

As for basketball, one troubling piece of information from the residents: Arenas has to ice his bad knee afterward.

So Gilbert has to ice-up his knee after some casual hoops with the fella's at the half-way house.
Pray we land that #1 pick, if-not, then we are going to have to take a risk and draft a PG at 30, probably Bledsoe...if he is there.

I'm not concerned by this. He iced his knees last season after games as well. He'll probably do it after every game/practice until he retires.

True, but considering the Wizards injury history, having Shaun Livingston and Gilbert on the same team (if we sign him) would be risky.

Yeah, what no D said.

I think I'd be more worried if he wasn't icing his knee after he played. The reality is he's had 3 knee surgeries and he's going to have to take precautionary measures like this in the hopes of preventing a fourth knee surgery. From personal experience, I've had 4 surgeries on my right knee and even though the last one was almost 4 years ago, I still ice my knee after I play every time.

sure would have been nice to have rubio waiting in the wings. besides wall i cant think of a draft this lacking in point guards in recent memory. hopefully it's just a precautionary measure and not do to massive swelling, major pain or something of that sort.

I share some of that concern, which may be why I've been so nervous about some of the numbers I've heard mentioned for a Livingston contract. Still, perhaps our long basketball nightmare is over, and a gradual recovery has begun. Surely the Wizards aren't now magically immune to injuries or other unpredictable events, but maybe now a more functional team (management, ownership, medical staff, etc.) can head off a few catastrophes and respond better when one does occur.

For me, there will probably always be an air of fragility surrounding Arenas, but I don't think that will stop me from enjoying him when he's on. Many great athletes have had to recover from injury and ice down routinely. I think that Arenas can be one of them if he wants to.

It's pretty common for athletes to ice their knees in order to prevent potential swelling. It doesn't mean that Arenas's knees are in any worse shape. I noticed that Grant Hill was icing his knees after one of the playoff games and he's been playing out of his mind. This is a non-story- this gives no indication how he's in shape/etc.

Bro, for ANY professional basketball player with previous knee troubles, icing knees after a game is a fact of life.

Yes there's a risk with him and Livingston too. But its too late to take back Arenas' contact, and Livingston will be a relative value based on his potential. He's probably worth the gamble.

Also drafting a PG at #30 won't make much of a difference if Arenas goes down. We'll still suck.

I'd be more upset if he WASN'T icing his knees. That's what you're SUPPOSED to do. Take care of that body and those knees.
