MN / ATL

Post#1 » by Devilzsidewalk » Mon May 10, 2010 4:27 pm

Big Al Jefferson / Gomes face / Sessions

for

Josh Smith / Marvin Williams

MN gets defense and running and grease the wheels by offering to take on Marvin Williams' mediocrity, but he'd be a SF improvement for us for some reason

ATL gets a chance to own the best two Al's in the game and give them a nice offense/defense combo at PF/C and a chance to play matchups more w/ Horford.

I think Atlanta says no thank you sir. Two starters on a 50 + win team for a starter and two back up on a 15 win team.

I think Krapinsky is right, Atlanta says no. I'd especially be all for this trade if we land say the #3 or #4 pick.

Flynn
Brew
Williams
Smith or Favors
Darko

That's one heck of an athletic run-and-gun team that can actually play defense too. Not to mention young. But again, probably a pipe dream as Atlanta wouldn't go for it.

I'm not sure if we'd say no. We desperately need a decent C or Howard is going to kill us for the next 10 years. Trading for Al Jeffereson would allow us to play Horford at 4, where he probably could be more productive. I'd say YES no doubt.

I do not believe Atlanta does it, but I would do it in a second. I would actually throw the Char pick in there to make it happen.

Perhaps flynn instead of sessions? (Both will be back ups to Rubio anyway) These guys are the type of Fwds we want next to Rubio.

Al Jefferson aint going to be stopping Howard any time soon either.

Then again who is? Actually if Al can learn to draw some fouls more often then he could get Howard into foul trouble since he's such a good offensive player.

Jefferson wouldn't necessarily need to stop Howard, but rather neutralize him by matching or exceeding Howard's offensive output. We all know that Al Jefferson isn't going to stop Dwight Howard on defense.

I think Al would be a great fit on the Hawks. Their slower pace of play would be a benefit to Al.

Just for kicks, head to head stats:

G - MP - FG% - TRB - AST - STL - BLK - TOV - PF - PTS
Dwight Howard
13 - 38.5 - .546 - 12.7 - 2.3 - 1.4 - 3.0 - 3.7 - 3.1 - 16.2
Al Jefferson
13 - 29.0 - .489 - 8.4 - 1.0 - 0.9 - 1.1 - 1.7 - 4.0 - 16.2

G - MP - FG% - TRB - AST - STL - BLK - TOV - PF - PTS
Dwight Howard
12 - 37.0 - .563 - 16.4 - 2.0 - 1.7 - 2.8 - 3.5 - 3.6 - 19.3
Al Horford
12 - 27.6 - .473 - 7.9 - 1.6 - 0.6 - 0.8 - 1.3 - 3.3 - 8.8

Jefferson does a better job against Howard than Horford.

Wow, Horford really does get abused there doesn't he.

I really like Horford, actually, but he's not a center. He's a PF and against some matchups (Celts, Cavs) that matters little. Against Orlando it's a huge problem.

I'm on the fence. Not a huge Josh Smith fan, but I agree that Smith and Williams would look terrific with Rubio getting them the ball (ATL's offense is almost all isos.) I think this would make the Hawks better, but only if they retain Johnson, which looks more and more unlikely.
