Which is what creates the incentive to trade away the 6th pick and try and win now with a proven vet and a proven coach.

But it doesn't make it in the franchise's long term interest.

And it doesn't make it more in the fans' interest. We want something new and with promise; not something that is safe but we know is not getting us where we want to go.

GameChannel, I stopped when you said Bosh improved his game inside.

The first 2 seasons, I agree with you. He was a rookie coach and he was handed a destructive roster by Rob Babcock. Not much difference anyone else can make when Mike James goes 5 out of 25 and still thinks he's an all star.

The 3rd year, the year where he won Coach of the Year. He had the right roster playing in a much weaker division. TJ Ford, Jose Calderon, Anthony Parker, Garbajosa, Rasho, MoPete were all solid players that year. Just because none of them are all stars, but you cannot discredit that year's roster as the best group of players Mitchell has under his belt.

And even though they went 8-9 before Mitchell got fired, you know the players literally tuned him out the last few games where they were blown out by teams. Players got tired of this task master who makes no in game adjustments and pulls players out of the game after making 1 missed shot attempt (i.e. Joey Graham, where he is always looking over his shoulder wondering when he will get taken off).

Argue for him all you want, but unless he make drastic improvements in terms of what game plan he brings to the table, he will not do much better than Eddie Jordan did.

By no means would I discredit Mitchell's ability to push and motivate players to reach their potential. Otherwise, people like Bosh, Garnett or Billups would not attribute their improvment to Mitchell. However, his flaw is his inability to adjust his way to help other types of players, same as his rotations and game plans.

as for feeling sad to be a Sixers fan these day, I think we all share the same sentiment.

I don't want to copy the entire post, but that recap of Mitchell's Raptors resume was useful (although it should note they were competing in a decimated division for much of that period). If he is the guy, it doesn't strike me as a horrible selection provided that it goes hand-in-hand with a shake-up in the roster. I don't see Mitchell being afraid (provided he's supported by management) to tell Brand he will now be playing 20 minutes a game off the bench.

As much as everyone here is saying don't trade the No. 6 pick (assuming that's what we get), I'm really not that high on anyone not named Wall as a difference maker in this draft (and that includes Turner and Cousins). I think there is a golden opportunity to use that No. 6 pick and the Iggy contract for a sign and trade to get a player looking to get the ultimate max contract (which is the 6 year deal w/10.5% escalators that you can only get through your current team). There is no way that type of package doesn't get the attention of team with a prime free agent who knows he's not resigning (hello Toronto) or knows they have no intention of offering max money to that player (hello Phoenix). But I just think you can only build through the draft but so much before you need either a big trade or free agent acquisition.

Since SF76 said this will be Stefanski's last chance to make things right. I really hope he will mess up once again. It may be the best thing for this franchise long-term. If he messes up again, the Sixers could get a top-5 pick next year and they may be forced into rebuilding mode.

I know I love the Sixers too much and it really pains me to see them like this now. I don't mind going through 2 or 3 more years of pain for better future. If ES somehow patches up things and make this team mediocre again, I'll have to go through maybe 5-10 more years of pain.

So you would want Stefanski trading our picks/young talent for veterans? That's the only way I could see him fixing it within a year.

Stefanski messing up could mean 5-10 years of mediocrity. I can see it now: The Sixers agree to terms for a trade that sends Sammy for Rip Hamilton!

And of course, he'll sell us on Speights being able to play the 5.(I don't even want him on the court).

Until this organization changes its philosophy and approach to running a franchise, we're going to be mediocre until we get incredibly lucky.

O.T., I just ordered ESPN the Mag for 4$ a year because it includes insider access. Deal is good for anywhere from 1-4 years. Found it at slickdeals. let me know if anyone wants the link.

Well if he tries to patch up this roster by making trades for veterans, the Sixers will probably be a playoff team - 6th-8th seed at best. It probably would be good enough to save Stefanski's job. When I say "mess up", I mean I hope ES totally fcuk it up like trading our young talent for veterans who can't flat out play. That would put us in worse situation than last year. That way, ES will be out of here and the Sixers will be forced to rebuild with a new GM instead of believing that they can patch up things.

Let's be honest, the Sixers aren't rebuilding. They really think they are just few pieces away from being a "contender".

if they make a few right moves they might be able to turn it around...but with Brand's contract/what's left in his tank...it is better to rebuild. Perhaps we should just get Mitchell go coach and tank the season again so we can hit the lottery!!!

Who we end up drafting in this draft and how they turn out will decide if we are closer towards winning or closer towards rebuilding. I think Stefanski and this Sixers team as is gets one more year to see what it can really be.
If we end up with an instant contributor from this draft we should be able to make the playoffs in the east.

Here is one of my concerns with SMitch: He's never been involved in a winner. Ordinarily, coaches(especially ex-players) can always point to a pedigree including being a member of at least a conference champion, if not an NBA champion. Mitchell can't point to that on his resume, which deals with credibility. Those coaches are able to get players to buy in easily when they can just point to their finger. Now, does he have enough strength of presence to lead without the shiny resume? Especially with the fact that this team has been a veritable coaching turnstile over the last several years? Who knows, Thibs and Buds haven't been interviewed yet, so there's that

Can you post the link here or PM with it? My subscription just expired and I didn't feel like doing it again unless it was on the cheap. This is on the cheap.

The magazine could take a few months to start arriving. But apparently you can contact ESPN in a few weeks to get the Insider up and running.
