Short simple trade MN/NY
Flynn for Gallo.
They are only a couple months apart, and had similar seasons. The difference is that we have too many PG and need wing support. Gallo fits with the type of SF we want for this team.
NY has cleared a ton of cap space, but there are no legit PGs available for them in free agency, only wing players. Which means Gallo would be behind whoever they target. Moving for a legit young pg that is also a local NY product would be appealing to the fans, and possibly a Free agent. Also, Flynn was designed for that system.
I know we are holding out for a big deal, but a short simple deal like this helps both teams.
Here is a discussion on the NY board

I like it. I would love it if we landed the #1 pick. I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up before.

How about for Wilson CHandler instead of Gallo?

It has been.
I believe some Knicks fans have flipped out about the suggestion because Gallo is a better version of Dirk.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I think NY says no. I have heard on here that they were not fans of Flynn and he hasn't done anything to change their opinion. I would also say no, but I am unusually low on Gallinari. I would rather have Hayward.

(In serious GM tone) How about Flynn and UTA pick for Gallo?
Joking aside, I would agree with the opinion most Knicks fans likely hold that Gallinari is worth more than Flynn at this point.

I think both sides have Overrate-itis. But you gotta understand NY's position. We haven't had a good draft pick in gawsh knows how long. We gotta milk this one and Gallo has a much higher upside than Flynn. Flynn could be pretty ok, but as of now he can't shoot and is a turnover machine. No thanks for now.

Re: Short simple trade MN/NY
Do you mind, in all respect, how do you plan on bringing in a productive young pg? As I pointed out in your thread, you have wing assets, but the FA targets are also wing assets. Logic would be that you should move one of them for a pg.

Re: Short simple trade MN/NY
Well we DO have Toney Douglas. He's a great shooter but about as equal to Flynn in PG skills. The thing is, we are aiming high for LeBron, who is ball dominant. Our PG just has to shoot. Flynn is not a fit. No knock on him I think he's gonna be a great player, just not right for our situation.
Once LeBron kicks our asses and says no, we'd probably think about it.

hmm, the NY thread was locked. Right after I was educated that Gallo was a future 20ppg player and Flynn was not even a prospect with potential.

knicksfan5954, We have the same problem right now. We are so focused on the homerun hit that all minor deals seem to be bad right now.

Re: Short simple trade MN/NY
I think what you're proposing from our (New York's) perspective is to trade Gallo with the assumption that we can successfully sign a wing player from free agency. However, as well all know, the ultimate goal is LeBron, and then the question becomes would a guy like Flynn fit in well with LeBron. I think the answer is probably not, as Flynn's strengths seem to rely on controlling the ball, while playing alongside LeBron, that would seem like a difficult thing to do.
If we aren't successful in signing LeBron, then we might as well keep Gallo and develop him into part of our core and use our cap space elsewhere.
Either way, I just don't see a potential trade there.

That's the thing - this isn't a minor deal. AS OF RIGHT NOW, these two players are each team's respective future. It's not that this isn't too fair or anything like that, but it's just not right for each team.
BTW, don't pay attention to NYK board flamers, you just gotta understand how much we value Gallo. His untouchable-ness is on LeBron's level.

Re: Short simple trade MN/NY
That makes sense Aq_ua.
I think I do not see Flynn as ball dominate. He was this year, but I attribute that to being a rookie in a funky system. When he got confused he wanted to do something positive which for him was breaking down the defense. He did not have a wing teammate that could break down the defense. His usage rate in college was not much higher then the other 2 wings at Syracuse. This shows me that he does not need to be a ball dominate pg to be effective. Just my take.

Re: Short simple trade MN/NY
yea, I understand. I am a Gallo fan also, perhaps that is why I would like him on this team so much. I think he is not properly used yet. If he ever can be the point/fwd and have the same usage that Hedo did with orlando in his final year then he could be something special. It is so hard to defend the p/r when the ballhandler can shoot as well as Gallo, but even harder with his height. I just worry that NY will not let him be a playmaker and only a spot-up shooter/run the floor scorer.
