Where Would Garnett Rank All-TIme With Another Ring?

Post#1 » by _BBIB_ » Wed May 12, 2010 1:10 am

They have a long road ahead of them beating the Cavs, Magic, and the Lakers, but what if the Celtics somehow shock everyone and win another title?

Does that solidify say a Kevin Garnett in the top 15 of all-time?

Could it put a Paul Pierce in the top 50?

No not really. I dont value rings that high if you are well past your peak. I think hes still around 20th. It helps Rondos career way more.

Well it's not like he doesn't have production as well. He's top 15 all-time in MVP shares as well as PER

And even though he's past his peak he's far more important to his team right now than say Shaq for the Cavs

Well if Garnett won another ring so would Allen, Peirce and Rondo right? So where would they rank all time with 2 rings? I think if Boston won it all this year people on RealGM would just hate Garnett even more, myself included.

he's going to be a shoe-in hall of famer; after that, it's all personal conjecture.

Well I mentioned Garnett because he's the guy with the more impressive resume from a career standpoint

I don't think it would necessary project him much higher on the overall all-time list, but a 2nd championship would certainly solidify his current placement on the list.

Well it'd create a clear argument that the celtics would have won in 09...

a potential 3peat

KG was the anchor of the best team since the 3-peat lakeshow etc.

I wouldn't put him any higher. Personally I thought his 08 contribution was overrated. It certainly helped his case that he won a title that year, but people are unwilling to recognize that KG was able to be efficient in the 08 playoffs because he's assisted on over 70% of his shots, the majority of them jumpers. It wasn't like he was splitting double teams or scoring on the inside that wreak havoc on the opposing defense, Pierce was the one running the show with Allen and Rondo as the secondary ballhandlers. KG just happens to be the designated finisher on the possessions he's involved in.

If Boston wins another ring this year, they probably missed out on a 3-peat due to KG's injury.

KG isn't a star player anymore. He is having a good series because Antawn Jamison is to small to defend him. HIs defense isn't that good anymore. I don't think it would do anything ot his legacy. I have KG a top 20 player alltime now. I put him right in the class of Barkley and Karl Malone. Unless he averages like 22 a game for the rest of the playoffs I don't expect to raise his ranking.

He'll never be ranked higher than Timmy, but the question should be does an extra ring rank him higher than Malone or Barkley. I think another ring gives him a definite nod over chuckster, but still don't think he passes Malone.
