Loyalty. A concept lost on most NBA players.

Have I mentioned that I really really like this guy?

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

I hope he stays. Four years, sixteen million sounds right.

Why you wanna low ball him?

He can easily get more than that on the open market.

Na, he won't get more than that. What is Matt Barnes's contract?

No he wont. I'll bet he takes a 1, or 2 year deal, 3 year max and by his choice. If they Jazz could lock him up cheap they will for as long as they can, and it will be smart of him not to do that.

I really liked Matthews. He is everything you want from a player, he just gives it everything he has and sometimes its enough and others its not. But I can live with that. I hope we can bring him back, but I dont think the Jazz can overpay him. CJ got a 4 year contract for $16 million without ever proving a darned thing. I say if Wesley is willing to stay for 4 years at $16mm, bring him on board. You wont find a guy that guards Kobe or Carmello better than he does.

I agree with you guys, 4yrs at 4mil per year sounds about right. Mathews is a stud, I think him and miles make for a potentially great combo.

I suggest the Jazz lock him up early this summer and not wait like Millsap and get stuck matching an unfavorable contract.

Jazz won't be low-balling him. I'm sure FO will extend a fair offer, and I'm sure Matthews will try hard to accept terms that would be functional to the Jazz cap issues. I will be a little pissed-off if the Jazz can't manage Matthews return.

I don't think he's restricted. I'm pretty sure he's an unrestricted free agent.

Edit: I thought it was just draft picks with traditional rookie contracts that became restricted, but I guess it counts for all veterans with three or fewer seasons. Good news for the Jazz. I was thinking this whole year he was going to be an UFA.

So did I, I'm very happy about this.

I just hope the Blazers don't go out of their way to screw us again....I could totally see them going after a guy like Matthews; especially with Rudy being a bit iffy about his future in Portland.

Matthews is a great role player, and he deserves something along the lines of what CJ Miles got when he was a RFA. The problem here is that we will probably have 65M in committed cap minimum w/o resigning Korver or Boozer after giving him that much money if we do decide to bring back guys like Fes, Jeffers, & Gaines (included is the #9 Draft pick salary). It should be interesting this offseason for sure and I can't wait to get rolling.

I don't see him getting anything more than CJ.

Who knows. This could be Shandon Anderson all over again.
