The Two and a Half Men clip without the laughter doesn't seem as bad. Not as many long pauses.

There's always one really annoying laugh in those laugh tracks. One guy who tries to drown out everyone else with his annoying laugh.

Seems like most new shows are sans laugh track, at least since "The Office" was adapted for the US. I don't think there's a laugh track on any of the NBC thursday night shows, and they're all solid (I thought Parks & Rec sucked last year, but it might be my favorite of the bunch now). I don't think any of the ABC wednesday block sports a laugh track either, and Modern Family might be the funniest show on TV.

Oh, and no to trying to make OKC flinch with Jeff Green, too risky they'd call the bluff and we'd be locked into overpaying.

laugh tracks are played out, time for something new, maybe a "rambunctious black guys' commentary in a movie theater" background track, or a "crying baby" track just to mess with people

The Simpsons showed America we don't need laugh tracks.

Arrested Development showed America you can laugh at any time if you find the hidden jokes.

I also recently watched ten minutes of a "Good Times" re-run. I bet 40% of the time on that show was filled with laugh track and canned audience reaction. It must have been ahrd to be an actor, holding a reaction shot.

It's really just peer pressure. To avoid being considered an outcast, you have to follow the rules and ways of the group to continue being a member. It may seem harmless at first, but it has the potential to lead to sex, drugs, and alcohol.

Unfortunately it stopped being funny 200 episodes ago. Only Matt Groening still thinks it's still original. I'll say the show that deserves the award for best animated show on tv right now is South Park.

For me, about the only show that never seemed to get old was King of the Hill. Futurama was killed by those awful movies.

Yes. If Arrested Development would have had a laugh track at all the times people were "supposed" to laugh, the laugh tracks would have drowned out most of the dialogue. That show had some of the best, if not THE best, comedy writing of all time. I don't know what happened, I guess people weren't ready for the type of comedy that requires a good attention span, and a lot of the humor must have gone right over peoples' heads. Shame.

I've also been watching recently some episodes of Perfect Strangers on Youtube and that serie has aged much better than i thought. It's a lot funnier in english than dubbed, most of the jokes didn't make any sense in spanish.
