Question about Tony Parker from a Pistons fan

Hello all, there's not one team in this league I respect more than the Spurs.

With that being said, I have a question about Tony Parker and the recent wire tap being posted, about how he's going to be looking for a max contract.

Here's my question...

Is the guy out of his mind?! Tony Parker is hardly worth 10 mill a season, why on earth does he feel like he's a max player? And, as respectable basketball fans, surely you all have to think he's crazy, right?

He's not a Max player, or even close...

Truth is, not many in this league are worthy of Max deals, but teams overpay all too often.

Its unfortunate how out of control spending has been over the last decade or so. Guys like Joe Johnson, Rashard Lewis, Michael Redd, (Even my man VC) and so on are clearly not worth max deals. But teams get in bidding wars and ticket prices continue to go up... Or teams with a lot of cap space will strike out on big time players and overpay for second tier level players for max money...

If Tony Parker gets a max deal, I would crap myself...

Lebron and Wade are the only two players who deserve a max deal, with Bosh and Amare slightly behind. Anyone else getting max or near max contract will do nothing but screw their prospective teams chances of being competitive during their tenure...

I didn't read anything about Tony wanting a max contract. I think the article said that NY will be willing to offer Tony a max contract.

Anyways, if we're judging by this year, ofcourse he's not worth that at all. Even in his career year (last year), he was probably more of a 12 mil per year kind of guy. Those max deals are usually worth like 15 to 17 mil a year. If he does get healthy for next year and he improves his numbers from the season before to say doing things like 24 ppg and 8 assists while shooting 50% FG, given that he's only 28 with a championship pedigree and he's in the open market, I think it's possible that someone offers him a max contract thinking that he'll only be 33 by the time his contract ends.

Didn't Manu get a 3 year 39 mil extension? 13 mil per year right?

I'm thinking if Manu gets a 13 mil/year deal, Tony could possibly get 14-15 mil/year which basically means along the lines of a near max contract. Tony is still only 27 (28 next year), and plays a much more important position. He'll have more value than Manu in the open market. Manu's extension will be looked as a bar.

Rondo signed a 5 yr $50M deal. Who would you rather have going forward? Rondo or TP? I'd go Rondo in a heartbeat.

I'd take Rondo. But I don't think TP is gonna use Rondo's contract as the bar in negotiating his new deal. Wasn't Tony's previous contract already bigger than that 10 mil/year? It's not likely that he settles for less than his previous contract. As far as Rondo, there's no way Rondo is worth 5 year 50 mil right now in the open market. The kid has blossomed into a near Max player.

True. The Celtics overpaid to ensure they keep him. But his play in the postseason has shown his worth.

If Isiah Thomas was still in NY, then Tony would def get max money. Hell, they gave Jerome James that ridiculous contract in '05.
