I loved Drazen Petrovic. He was so much fun to watch. At one point he was my favorite non Sonic. Then that Summer he was in the car crash.

I hated the Knicks so I remember cheering for the Nets in the playoffs and watching Kenny Anderson go flying into the front couple rows because Mason(? so long ago I can't quite remember) gave him a nasty dirty shove. Next thing you know that's it, broken wrist.

What was not to love about the Garden Snake (Shawn Bradley)?

Then I was excited for the John Calipari and Kerry Kittles era that never quite took off.

But the ping pong balls bounced your way and you got K-Mart. Kidd came around with a trade. You guys had a couple nice deep runs to the playoffs and then K-Mart bolted for Denver for a bloated contract.

Other than the couple years with Kidd it seems you guys have had plenty of things go awry. I hate to see a team move, fortunately for you guys it's not across the country. But I really hope you win the lotto and draft Wall.

I think if you can nab the #1 and pair Lopez with Wall along with the move to Brooklyn, new owner with DEEEEP pockets, that has to be a tempting scenario for Lebron James. I actually really like your chances at landing him. I think you are better than a dark horse really. Would you want to go play for Mike D'Antoni?

With the Suns playing the way they are with Gentry, looks like Mike might be a little over rated.

At any rate I really hope you guys get lucky with your ping pong balls.

Hate to sound picky, but i think it was john starks maybe greg anthony who committed the flagrant. Can someone please correct me or back me up

It was John Starks....saw him near the garden about a year ago and yelled at him about it, true story...

And, yeah, they would say no. The point would be to pair Harris and Granger togther if they were to make a trade for Harris.

Yup yup.

I think the 10th overall, Brandon Rush and an expiring for Devin is a deal that will wind up having legs if the Nets draft Wall though.

I dont mind this at all.

Boone couldn't have been the BPA after Marcus.

Let's just say it like this, Rod Thorn doesn't necessarily draft too well unless absolute no brainers fall to him and even then he passed on Granger...

Antoine Wright was BPA according to Thorn. Everyone thought he was gonna go between 6-10 and he was sitting there at 14.

#2 on our list that year was Danny Granger but management was concerned about his knees.

Just think about it...we wanted Granger...but AW fell...kill me.

Thanks I knew there was another reason why I hated John Starks other than the fact he is ugly as all sin.

Antoine Wright was absolutely never considered BPA, nor was he projected that high. If anything it was Gerald Green and then Granger. Wright was considered the most NBA ready that would have the most instant impact.

^^^^ I'll gladly go back and do the research. Rod Thorn said it himself on record a few times over the years. In the leagues eyes, you could be right but Thorn had stated he was at the top of their list but didn't think he'd fall out of the lottery.

The Nets were targeting Antoine Wright all along in this draft, and were counting their lucky stars when they saw that he finally fell out of the lottery. Wright will immediately be considered their best shooter and one of their best defenders on the team right off the bat, and should contribute immediately playing alongside Kidd, Carter and Jefferson, as New Jersey is a team that is severely lacking in depth.

Yes, this isn't being disputed. The Nets were targeting him, not the rest of the league. This just backs up my claims of him being considered the most NBA ready and most likely to instantly contribute and have an impact.
He was projected as lottery for a while, but very late lotto, not 6 through 10.

I'm not doubting he was Rod's #1 target and probably his BPA at the time he "fell" to us, but this is more a testament to Rod's mediocre drafting over the years then it is to Wright's allure.
Wright was not considered BPA when we drafted by most of the league, nor the draft experts and pundits.

Actually, IIRC correctly, DraftExpress was really high on Wright and not on Green. I remember a comment they made saying you "hope" that Green reaches his potential...which is Antoine Wright.

Bulls fan here..A question

Post#253 » by Legendary 33 » Mon May 17, 2010 5:03 am

Sup Nets fans, I just have a quick question:

Why do so many of you want to draft Wall if you get the #1 pick?

You guys already have (when healthy) an elite point guard in Devin Harris. Why not just use that on Evan Turner or Derrick Favors, who I think has best PF in the league potential?

IMO, lets say the Nets land LeBron: I feel like a lineup of:

Devin Harris
Courtnee Lee
LeBron
Derrick Favors
Brook Lopez

is much better than taking out Lopez and Favors and plugging in Yi and Wall.

I actualy want Turner slightly more than i want to draft Wall. I do understand why Wall will be the #1 tho. If he lives up to the hype i see him being the next Wade and i think just the fact that he's an exciting player to watch will be a great marketing tool for any franchise that gets him. I'll be extatic if we get the #1 and subsequently Wall, but we already have a perfectly capable allstar callaber point guard with finals experience thats in his prime and i also think that Twill will ultimately become a point guard after what i saw from him in the last month or so of this season. As good as Favors looks i wouldnt want to spend our 1st pick on a big man because they tend to take a bit longer to develop in this league so fir me its Wall or Turner. We could always use the Dallas pick to get the best rebounding big left on the board. I rather us go after an experienced pf thru free agency ala Lee, Boozer or Amare.

I said it before and I'll say it again...Granger even with his so called injuries in college was a better player/pick than AW, he was the right pick...and obviously now the samething is true...injuries and all, he plays pretty damn well...obviously this will catch up to him down the road, but I probably would of picked Granger over Antoine even if he had one leg...

AW, was overrated big time...always was always will be...

Yeah I'm going to be sitting in class. Do we know if ESPN or someone will have a live feed as the lotto is announced?

They're fairly quick in announcing which team gets what pick so there's probably going to be a lone update/article on any NBA related website, including RealGM.

I'm sure all my friends (none are Nets fans) will either send me congrats and "Lebro-nets" texts if we win the lotto or mocking/your teams will always suck texts if we don't lol.

All right, I'm calling it: We're getting the second pick, with the 76ers getting the first.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
