Jazz Options for upcoming season
#1 - Pay Luxury tax
Jazz pay Boozer whatever they have to to retain him. Do the same with Matthews and Korver. And hope that they can contend for a title.
#2 - Patch
Jazz salvage what they can from losing Boozer in a sign and trade and try to offset the loss with a MLE signing.
#3 - Rebuild
Jazz allow boozer and Korver to walk. Jazz also look to dump Okur, setting up room for a max FA next year.
#4 - Reload
Jazz make a blockbuster deal of some sort. Possibly using AK's expiring or TPEs.
#5 - Count beans
Jazz keep Boozer and do whatever they can to get under luxury tax. (Probably involving AK)
So... 5 broad catagories of what direction the Jazz can take this offseason. Which direction would you take if you were KOC?

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Re: Jazz Options for upcoming season
I'm probably gonna wait to see how the draft goes first, but as of now I'd probably see what's available for Booz in a sign and trade, but I don't really give a **** as long as we retain Matthews. That's my boy

Props to Matthews too. He needs to stay for sure, but how much will he command in the open market? I hope this doesn't turn into another Mo Williams issue. Pay the Man!
As much as I h8 to say this, I'm really hoping the Jazz do a S&T with Booz, let Korver walk, then try to dump Okur. I like Okur, but the Jazz can only have so many injury prone guys on the team. I wonder if the Pistons would be willing to trade Prince for Okur. Does that seem like a reasonable trade?
We all know the Jazz need to retool the front line and I hope it gets the main attention in the off-season, starting with the draft.

Re: Jazz Options for upcoming season
I'd say #2. I think Boozer may be signed to a big deal somewhere at a level the Jazz don't feel they can go. So to move forward, they have the Harpring TPE and MLE--then they sign Matthews so he doesn't get away. Korver is iffy depending on the asking price and who they are able to pick up. Sounds like Fesenko may be back though probably not for big money. Biggest needs are another C to help in case Memo isn't ready to go and backup PF. Otherwise SG is another area if Korver doesn't come back. A player may come from the draft to fill one of these needs but probably not be an immediate contributor.

I would not pay the luxury tax for a team eliminated in the second round. This team has not substantially improved against the best so retooling is necessary.

I believe that is his status, yes.

Re: Jazz Options for upcoming season
Option 2 let Boozer walk as u cant pay a non-defender that much money, especially when U already have a good replacement in Millsap. Fire Sloan and get innovatice young coach that will stress fast break basketball and pressure D would be nice but not going to happen. Sign Korver only if salary demand very reasonable. Definitely sign Matthews and probably Fess.
The Jazz had their chance this year to make a good run but traded away the valuable contract of Harpring and Maynor for nothing and kept the over-valued NYK pick. These players and the NYK pick plus Brewers contract could have gotten the Jazz a star big or at the very least Camby plus a Caron Butler in a couple of small trades but the Jazz are more concerned about money than winning championships. U might say why didnt Dallas win it then, but We had DWILL, and a deep team unlike them.
We are going to be stuck as a 4-8th playoff seed for the next 5 years until DWILL leaves then we would be a non-playoff team until the team finally gets sold and moves to Vegas or Seattle.
Not what you want to hear but seems to be the road the Jazz are heading to.

Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

I am not very good at this, but just wondering would Utah interested in a sign and trade for Bosh?
Bosh played with similar players over the season, with Center Bargnani plays on the perimeter like Okur, and a poor man's Deron in Jack.
Will you pay Bosh the max with Kirilenko sending to Toronto plus #9 and a future 1st?
Assume you are getting back assets from Boozer, the future 1st might just be part of the return.

I don't think this season really warrants a rebuild. I'm going to have to go with the #2 option.

I am not convinced that Bosh is a max player. Where has he led his team lately? I certainly wouldn't give a player and two firsts for the opportunity to overpay him.

Re: Jazz Options for upcoming season
Personnally all the options suck. I DO NOT WANT MILLSAP as our starting PF. I want a team that can challenge the Lakers. I see no reason to spend all the money on boozer if we plan on keeping Millsap. I would rather have Boozer any day over Millsap. My Ideal team would trade Millsap and Okur for a large center. We need lenght. Resigining our team and going over the cap to do so, does not improve it. Cutting players we have does not improve it. Millsap as our starting PF does not improve it. I want a shake up.
Boozer is a great player, and I would love to keep him . The Jazz should sign him then trade Millsap and Okur to get cap relief and get a big.

I would definately send kirilenko and the number 9 and a future first for Bosh. I would send millsap too if it would do the trick.

I'm somewhere between rebuild and reload. I'm thinking let Booze walk.

I would do this if the jazz don't make the lottery. Trade our 9 pick plus of our memphis 2011 first rounder for Westly Johnson. Trade Kirilenko to New Jersy for nothing . The Russian owner would love to add Kirilenko. Resign Boozer or David Lee to start at power forward.

I say let Boozer and Korver walk and sign David Lee. If we so happen to remain at 9 in the draft, we should draft someone thats capable of doing PF/C. Fez has been a surprise to me and the Jazz are a lot tougher team when he plays while Memo just doesn't mix it up well with opposing bigs and is somewhat soft.

We can't sign anyone, we don't have the cap space. The only reason we have the option with Boozer is because we own his Bird Rights.

Re: Jazz Options for upcoming season
Boozer is a very good PF and he would be even better with a defense oriented C to cover his shortcomings. We still need an athletic big to adequately address this. CJ, Deron, Memo (part time) cam provide adequate outside with a better inside.

I would do this in a heart beat. I think Bosh is a very talented big that would bring some length to the PF position which we so dearly need. We would miss AK's length, but Bosh more then makes up for the loss. If we win the lottery I would have to think about it more.... we could get a very talented guy here at a lot lower cost.
I then would use our Mid level exception and low level exception to go after Haywood. He's not a great offensive player but his defense would help some. Unless you think Jermaine Oneal would join for that low salary wise (: (*he's injury prone too though).
reSign Korver, Matthews, Gaines, Fess.
C: Haywood or (Oneal)/ OKUR/ Fess
PF: Bosh/Millsap/Koufos
SF: Miles/
SG: Matthews/ Korver/
PG: DWill/Price/Gaines
Millsap would get some time at the 3 and we would look at our 2nd round pick, undrafted, etc to fill out the roster.
We would be a little high on salary next year, but a great young core:
Haywood or Oneal 6.25Mil/ Okur 9.945M/ Fess 1.09M (*qualifying offer)
Bosh 16.23Mil/ Millsap 7.6M/ Koufos 1.3M
Miles 3.7Mil/
Matthews ~3mil/ Korver ~3mil
Dwill 14.94Mil/ Price 1.38Mil/ Gaines .762Mil
3 2nd round/undrafted/d-league = 2.5mil combined
Total salary for Jazz = 71.697 Mil
I think Fes got better the more he played in the playoffs and hopefully will work hard this offseason on his shot and using his body to defend. We would have some good height especially when Millsap played the 3 to help match up against the Lakers. Haywood is 7ft, Bosh is 6'10" both with long reach.
You get 2 a great combination in Dwill to Bosh, both grew up together around Dallas and are good friends (chemisty should be there), Better defensive players with Bosh and Haywood. And a team I would love to watch play with some length and athleticism. We would be thin at the 3 with d scrubs backing up Miles unless we went longer with Sap. I think its a great starting line up with room for some 2nd rounders and undrafted free agents to come get a chance to play. That's where KOC shines anyways.
