Problem with relying way too much on LeBron. The entire offense predicates on what one player does...you guys seriously need a more balanced offense approach. Back to back scenarios where the offense failed miserably.

Also, why didn't Hickson get any play time? Jamison was also a big mistake.

Why would anyone be sad that this team will be destroyed. At least when Jordan beat us with "the shot," our team was giving it their all. LBJ will never win a title as "the guy" in NY. Prepare to be disappointed. Now the real work begins for Danny Ferry. Lets rebuild this team in the image of this city, tough, gritty, with lots of heart.

Don't pity the Cavs. I pity you if LBJ is headed your way. If handled right, this can be the beginning of something great.

An outsider's view on what the Cavs need

Post#226 » by LongLiveHinkie » Fri May 14, 2010 9:10 am

I'm a Sixers fan. Yes I know my team sucks and I really don't care about those losers right now. I'm a huge NBA fan and have been for years. After watching the Cavs get eliminated for the second straight year by lower seeds, I think the same thing last year kind of hurt your team this year.

Last year I thought the Cavs had no post game on offense from their bigs and defensively their bigs were slow and old. Ilgauskas was a liability defensively and offensively Varejao is a nice scrappy player with intangibles, but isn't an ideal starting 4 on a title contending team.

Then you look at this year, the team had Shaq at center who is a major shell of himself, and Jamison who looked to be worn down against the Celtics. I don't know if his age/health finally caught up with him, but he looked like he had zero lift on his jumper and couldn't get rebounds down low. Plus Jamison isn't really a post player anyway. He has some nice moves, but his biggest strength was his jumper and ability to spread the floor.

I'm not sure if Jamison and Shaq's contract situations, but I think you guys need to reload your front court. Somehow get a post presence at either position and someone with athleticism that can body up the stronger, rangier and more mobile big men in the east. You guys need someone with some touch around the basket with some pivot moves. Someone to be able to score consistently down low when jumpers aren't falling.

I really think your back court is fine. I think you can win with Mo Williams and West in the back court assuming Lebron re-signs and stays at the 3. I think you guys have enough shooters to spread the floor. But your front court really hurt you this series, and even if you managed to get past Boston, I think Howard would have ate you guys alive. Of course in an ideal world you would like to get a star level 2 guard to compliment Lebron, but realistically, you can't change every position on the team with quality talent. I really wonder if things would have ended up differently if you guys traded for Iguodala instead of Jamison at the deadline.

If you can keep Lebron I think Ferry should take a different approach to getting over the hump. Instead of feeling the heat and trying to win right now by trading for older players like Shaq and Jamison, maybe you should develop some of your younger talent like Hickson, and take a step back for a year or two and get a couple big men in the draft. You guys have been picking at the bottom of the first round for so long, it makes it a lot harder to get legit players. I know that might not go over well with fans who feel a title is so close they can taste it, but it might serve your team better down the road. Just a thought.

Anyway, just my take. I hate Boston more than any other team and sports and badly wanted you to beat them.
