Marvin Williams and Zaza Pachulia

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Fri May 14, 2010 2:54 am

would you guys be willing to do Atlanta a favor and take Marvin and Zaza for a second round pick?

nothing wrong with either guy, Marvin is solid and Zaza is a fan favorite, but this would free enough cap for the Hawks to make an offer for Lebron, Wade, or Bosh without a sign and trade.

Not interested. Williams contract is bloated and Pachulia isn't much better than solid. It'd make us alot better probably, but I wouldn't want to be stuck as a lower playoff seed with only mid round draft picks to improve us, since we won't have capspace after that deal.

I don't think Zaza is the hard nosed lowpost defender we need to put next to Al/Love. I like Williams, but in all honesty, with his contract, the Wolves would probably rather do a super-favor deal with the 6er's or Bulls to help them clear cap for them, Iggy and Deng are better fits with the Wolves.

I don't think the players are bad, or their contracts are bad (though I admit to optimism with Williams), however, they are not good enough to get raw cap space .. more likely expirings.

If ATL wanted raw cap space for them, they'd have to add incentive. I just don't see a way they could do it in a deal that works for both teams.

Look at WIlliams' game log. Where did he go? He's honestly no better than Gomes as a SF. I'd actually prefer Gomes' outside shot at the 3 spot in our offense over waht Williams would bring. Zaza isn't even worth discussing.

I can't argue that Williams has been great, and the length of his contract is a little disturbing. To me, he's enigmatic. I think he has the physical ability and the tools to be a much better player. Will that happen in ATL? Will it happen anywhere? I don't know - he's in a group to me like Travis Outlaw .. a young guy that could, and maybe "should" be better than he is.

Pachulia is no prize, but he's an OK NBA big man, and a contract less than the MLE doesn't bother me that much.

Again, I don't think they are worth raw cap space, but with some good incentive, I might do a deal hoping they could be better.

are the Hawks already thinking the Williams contract was a bad idea?

i don't think Marvin has a bad contract, i think he has a really good contract. 7M a year for a 24yr athletic SF, nice offensive skills and plays elite man defense. but because of Lebron and Wade, Marvin would just be the odd man out, Lebron would take his spot or Wade at the 2 and slide Evans at the 3.

i would love it if the Hawks could find a way to trade Bibby, and Evans for cap space, but it is just easier to trade a 24yr SF and 26yr Center rather than an aging PG. but yeah, it would be a dream for the Hawks if they could get Lebron and have Marvin coming off the bench.

Marvin just became the 4th option on a good team. before it was Joe at #1, and Marvin and Smith taking shots. but with the addition of Crawford, it because Joe, Jamal, Smith, then Marvin. Hawks didn't ask him to do much this year, everything ran through Joe and Jamal, he just had to play defense, which he did pretty well against guys like Pierce, or Melo, or Granger.

4th Option of a good team? Like Lamar Odom or like Kevin Garnett? I don't buy that excuse at all.

Lamar is 3rd behind Kobe and Pau, and really he is #1 when Kobe comes out of the game. KG is #2 behind Paul, with Ray taking alot of spot up 3s, and KG is really the only offensive post guy the Cs have, so how is Lamar and KG's roles any where near the same a Marvin :-?

is this post for real?

I thought I was actually doing you a favor by not using Bynum and Rondo. We can do that if you want instead.

I think Marvin will be among the most improved players in the league the moment he is put in a real system with guards that will actually use him. I have never seen a player of his skill set and talent that is literally never used.

I also think he's out of position. I think he may need to be a 4 to b ultimately successful on the offensive end.

I think he is a 3. Might not be the best ball handler, but he is a 3 not a 4.
