We are the youngest team in the NFL, we have a great cap situation. Regardless of whether we lose to Seattle, Dallas or New England Favre has every reason to come back. I certainly don't expect 13-3 against next year but this is definitely a talented team that is going to get even better if TT keeps making the right moves.

We really can't be too sure what's going to happen. In that post-game interview I was 100% sure that Favre would retire. Well he didn't. And surely you guys remember 2006 when it took Favre forever for him to make his decision?
So I think this means nothing IMO, that we shouldn't get our hopes up (yet) for Favre returning next season. I think what's really going to influence his decision are the playoff results. So if we bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Titletown (where it belongs) I think Favre will retire. If not, there will be no reason for him to not come back.

On the TV show "30 Rock" tonight someone mentioned that they sat next to "Brett Favre's cousin" on a plane once. And to think all the haters and naysayers thought Favre would never again reach the comic heights of his 1990s "There's Something About Mary" days. Still, part of me wants Favre to retire now, while he can still get a laugh, before he winds up a sad shadow of his comic self on "How I Met Your Mother" or "Rules of Engagement".

I figured Brett would be back, the only thing i wonder about is how this impacts Rodgers. We do have him under contract and his attitude about not playing has been outstanding, but at some point soon, i'd assume frustration is going to set in for Rodgers about not getting a chance to play and i wouldn't blame him.
What has to factor in his thinking is what if Favre plays well again next season along with the team, Brett could then want to play yet another season. If you're Rodgers, that would be five seasons of your career doing nothing for the most part except watching even though i do think the first few years just learning has benefited Aaron.
I don't know if Rodgers would ask for a trade and if he did, would Thompson even consider doing it for Rodgers if we got a 1st or 2nd rounder in return. I'm sure at some point after the season Rodgers will make his thoughts known on this subject and i'm very curious how he feels.

Those are some good points, and we have no clue when Favre is going to retire.
But keep in mind that Favre is 38. He could retire after the season, or he could play into the upcoming decade. Regardless of when he retires, it's clear to all of us that Favre is at the tail-end of his career. Like you mentioned, Rodgers has been very patient, so he can/will wait for another 1-3 years before he sheds his title as Favre's understudy and gets tabbed-in as the starting QB.
Rodgers waiting for prime time is like me waiting for a pizza delivery; You want it now but you know it's coming soon.

The issue with Rodgers is his contract. If I'm not mistaken, it contained a lot of performance based incentives, including starts.
Now, he's making good money as a backup, but he's approaching a period where I'm sure he was hoping to impress enough to get that 'big contract' in another season. With Favre blocking him for another season it removes that opportunity. If Brett Brett goes out after 2008 it leaves Aaron one season to go out and show that he deserves a Rivers, Romo, Roethlisberger, Manning, soon-to-be- Anderson type deal.
Rodgers has been outstanding so far. But I have to think he'd be very disappointed if he's not under center next season.
Easy solution to all of this, though. Packers win the SB in four weeks and Favre rides off into the sunset.

Thank god they wont have daily news for two months on every activity favre did that day.
I swear they were like one step away from analyzing his waste.
It wasnt Bretts fault though. It was the **** idiots on the news not realizing the simple fact that when there is no actual news on a subject you cant report on it. So thank you Brett for putting an end to that.

Doubt it. I think if he got his Jerome Bettis/John Elway send-off with a SB victory he'd retire while on top.
Not sure about that. It would be a great end. But Brett plays for fun and if he can paly well. He's playing very well and winning is fun. He can see a young team shoud only get bettter. He might come back and go for 3.
I hope we get a chance to find out - meaning a SB win!
Meanwhile DB you've been worrying about Rodgers from day 1. Relax. The kid is lucky to be in this situation and I think he's smart enough to see it.

I have no doubt that Favre has the ability to play at a high level should he wish to come back next season. He also obviously loves playing and he's smart enough to see that this team could do great things in the coming year.
But I also think that in addition to his love for the game, he didn't want to end his career as a loser, so-to-speak, and that's a big reason why he's returned the last few seasons.
If he ends up winning the whole thing, his legacy would be firmly intact. Three time MVP, two time Super Bowl winner, owner of every great record out there. You'd have to include him on the shortlist of 'Greatest Ever'. Not that I don't believe he's on there now. But it's more for the rest of the football watching world. Not even the biggest Favre hater could debate his place in history.
But nothing is for certain in the NFL. He could come back in '08 and guide the team to another championship. Or he could get a concussion or a major injury and the final image of Brett for us could be him being carted off. Who knows. I think that 'lasting image' is probably very much on his mind when he debates whether he wants to return. Going out on top may outweigh his competetive desire and no one could blame him for that.
As for Rodgers, I'm not worried so much as I could see him being concerned about his future in GB. If he's sitting out another season he's likely losing between 14-16 million in incentives, to say nothing of the fact he's not able to showcase his ability for that next big deal. There are some truly terrible QBs in the NFL. My guess is he'd start for many of them.
If Favre comes back, maybe you look to trade him while his value is probably pretty solid and draft Favre's replacement this April.
