We Should Try To Sign Shaq

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Fri May 14, 2010 8:06 pm

Seriously. We should sign Shaq.

He is an UFA coming off a fairly down year so I think he could be had on the cheap (MLE?).

Imagine what he could do here. Imagine the impact he might have,

We are one of the slowest offensive teams in the NBA so Shaq would fit right in because he wouldn't be expected to haul arse up and down the court on every other possesion. He would give us a large body to dump the ball into who can actually score in the post. He, even still, can command a double and knows how to pass out of it which would open it up for DJ, Jax and Crash.

If nothing else, the exposure of having an owner like MJ, a head coach like LB and the addition of a player like Shaq would be huge. I can only imagine we would get loads of games on national TV.

Who's with me? We should sign Shaq.

How much do you think he would cost?
Would he make a difference?
Would he come here?
Would he help someone like Lexy with his development?
Would he work with the current roster (namely Jax and Crash)?
Would there be enough room for his, MJ's and LB's egos?

You honeslty think that Shaq at 10mil/2 years wouldn't be a good investment - both on the court and off it?

i guess after i think about it, i would probably do it purely for the impact of marketing, ticket sales and exposure.

but DAMN his defense is painful to watch. he's way too slow to fit in with lbs style of having the bigs chase show way out on the floor on the p&r. that would have to change. it would also give is 5 centers.

So Shaq is the new Allen Iverson? We should sign him because of all the marketing possibilities!

Shaq is horrendous on the P&R. He wouldn't fit in defensively at all. He'd be a nice offensive option, even at Age 4,000, but I don't think he's worth the trouble.

I don't want Shaq here neither, he's finished, he makes no positive impact whatsoever IMO.

I say sign him, we would match up even better on Orlando should we play them again next year

I agree 100% Slam. Shaq gives you a post presence, he can pass out the post position, his "D" isn't the best but Tyrus is a monster as a weak side shot blocker and I think having them together solidifies the Bobcats in the frontcourt, all this team would then need is a solid point guard, maybe a Kirk Hinrich. Kirk is about 6'3 but is a great on ball defender, he can "D" up opposing teams point or shooting guard, he can also play either position, he can make the open shot, and create plays for others and himself. Back to Shaq though, I agree, he should be picked up

:jawdrop: I can't believe what I'm reading! :jawdrop:

Are you guys nuts? Shack is a shell of his former self. He's going to age at an exponential rate given his size and past wear on the body. Plus, we've got no money!!

Come on folks. I know we're sitting here in LB limbo, in draft pick hell, and still picking the splinters out of our hands from pounding the table during the playoff disaster, but there must be something more productive we could discuss.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

surely signing Shaq would ensure we would not even attempt to sign Tyrus and Felt's as he alone would push us to the luxury zone.

If we're going to sign Shaq, we might as well bring Starbury back from China and pair him with Steve Francis in the back court. If we're going to sign one washed up player, we might as well get them all.

Shaq is trying to be the next Robert Parrish. Like Parrish, he's way past his prime and does nothing for this team besides a cheesy PR boost.

Too much. Maybe we're the only team to offer him something higher than vet min? I'd rather give MLE to Tyrus.
Would he make a difference?

for 20mpg. He's better than Tyson/Naz/Theo. Would he make a difference big picture wise? Well, we'd be the team people cite when they discuss how weird it is when players spend their twilight on other teams (Olajuwon in Toronto, Ewing in Seattle/Orlando/MJ in Washington)
Would he come here?

No
Would he help someone like Lexy with his development?

Couldn't hurt
Would he work with the current roster (namely Jax and Crash)?

I think a legit post threat probably helps them, but maybe he makes things too crowded in the paint.
Would there be enough room for his, MJ's and LB's egos?

Yea, definitely.

My point isn't that Shaq is the missing piece, but we should TRY to sign Shaq, he'd help. He'll probably get a better offer from someone else, but I don't see the harm in putting out the feelers.

We're good with defense. We need offensive options.
