georgia didn't even have a better year (regular season) than tennessee. if they did, they would've been in the sec title game. georgia wasn't even top 2 in its own conference over the course of the season. how they could be top 2 in the nation without being top 2 in its own conference is beyond me.
what does usc have to do with any of that? and fwiw, my opinion of usc is that they're very good when fully healthy but were extremely lucky to win the pac10. if longshore and dixon don't get hurt, usc is 3rd at best. the dixon injury in particular took usc from having virtually no shot to just having to beat an overrated asu team.

I assumed you were a USC fan and they're the only team that you can really make an argument for. UGA had a better year than Tennessee, you have to look at the entire year not just one or two games.
At this point I don't even care because the season is over and UGA should be ranked #1 in the preseason polls.

a usc fan? that's just insulting.
i'm a cal fan. we were doing better than usc until longshore got hurt and our season went into the toilet.
regarding georgia vs tenn, that was settled over the course of the entire sec season not just one or two games. but you're right that the season is over now and its really a moot point.

cals year is next year. this year? not a chance. i do think though that they could bring a better challenge with that QB they have. very impressive outing at the bowl game.
but this year, no way. next year? cal looks to improve. but, that solely depends on your coach if he can bring some new stuff to the table.

Which is exactly why any knowledgeable fan would say UGA was 100x better than Tennessee and at the end of the day, an impressive 10-2 > a very lucky 9-3.

Win your conference first.
Better yet, make your conference title game first.
Why are Georgia fans so hypocritical? You never deserved to be in the NCG discussion from the get-go. You do as you were expected to do by beating Hawaii, but no f**king way should you have even gotten a look from the BCS folks otherwise.

This is true but irrelevant because 1) Tennessee is arguably the most overrated program in college football, ahead of Alabama, South Carolina, etc. and 2) it had no bearing in the grand scheme of things.

I never once said UGA deserved to be in the NCG. That doesn't mean they aren't the best or second best team. The didn't show up to a couple of games and it cost them. Georgia could have faced any of the BCS teams and I have no doubt they would have won.
Like I said, though, it doesn't matter. We'll have our #1 ranking soon enough and the SEC will win the NC yet again.

The implications of being "college football's best team" are that you deserve to play for the national title. Which Georgia shouldn't have and didn't.
I did not watch the Sugar Bowl and I hadn't watched Georgia play in weeks, but outside of Hawaii and Kansas I'd be hard-pressed to declare Georgia a victor against any other BCS team.
If they're the No. 1 team in the nation next year, that'll be all well and good because that debate has little to do with this current one.
