Re: Fantasy! March Madness Tourney Update
What a thrilling finals in the H2H-B D-League! I thought I was dead in the water with LeDiva sitting out the last four games, but my team still managed to get a 4-4 tie and win on the tiebreaker. Anyway, great job by chamomile teanaire to make it to the finals as the 6th seed and almost pull off the win.

haha thanks- that was me. I knew I had to gut out some early season injuries and initial sucky record and try to just get into the playoffs (which I did, barely).
so what happens now? do we move up to the big leagues? the h2h-a d-league??
also I know it's already really late but anyone want to start a baseball league with me?

Congratulations to the winners, and all who did well. There were several breakthroughs (that's you, Ralphie!!!), and more of the same (Fat Kat!). Some teams just lost some momentum down the stretch (you need to keep up with your teams!), while others caught fire when it mattered most. Here's to another fun season, we'll pick it up again in September.
As per usual, the top 3 finishers in each D-League get the call up, while the bottom 3 get demoted. For next season, the top 3 from D-League B, go to A. NLR and myself will stay in each league that they commish, though NLR can move up to the next league if other managers pull out. An added twist this season also made it possible to have 2 entries, in either the Roto or H2H league, as well as Champion and D-League. I'll give preference to new players though for next season, before going that route. We can expand the leagues as necessary.
So congrats again to everyone for participating and doing well. I'll leave this thread up for another week, to allow possible signups for next season, before replacing it with the 'Guess the Starting Lineup for Opening Night' contest. Also, if your team name doesn't match your RGM name, let me know, because the invites are sent via PM. Enjoy the summer!
Baseball leagues: sorry for slacking off there, guys. But go ahead and make threads in the baseball forums if you're still interested in running a league. We'll start one up for next season again, as well as football leagues in the fall too.

The final score is therefore 4-4 with blocks tied. The regular season record between me and the other guy is 9-9. The tiebreaker therefore comes down to playoff seed, so I lose. I finished just 2 games back of the other guy.
Good thing there's no money involved or I'd be pissed.
Yeah that was me getting ridiculously lucky, I'm still trying to figure out how I won. Anyway it was fun.

shouldn't we figure out the baseball league in this thread since it'll be a knick board type of thing?

It'll be a baseball type of thing, Johnny. All the baseball related stuff gets directed to those boards, same for football.

By the way Johnny, I was thinking more along the lines of posting it in either the Mets or Yankees Forum. But the Fantasy Baseball Forum works too...

Anyone have a link they can share or a copy paste of how these things work? I have no idea what a fantasy league thing is or how it works. But they always interest me.

Depends on what type of league you do, Head to Head or Rotisserie. Head to Head you go up against a different opponent each week. In Rotisserie everyday your against the entire league. This goes for all sports.
You pick categories IE points, rebounds, steals, etc.
You draft a team and have to have like three guards, three forwards, two centers and two utilities. Then you have like a few bench players. You set your lineup and that's essentially it.
Every league is a little different, but you tend to get a grip on how other players are playing from a statistical standpoint.
It's not hard at all to pick up.

Ok. So each thing has its own rules. So I can read up on them there. I draft players and set up a line up. What is the determining factor of my success? Is it the actual players numbers in the season? For example add all 13 players numbers in each category up? Is that why its important to pick stat stuffer's over say a low output but good essentials player? Say Amare (23.1ppg) over Duncan (17.9) Or Lee (20-12) over Garnet (14-7)?
This is the part that stumps me. Because I would chose guys that would perform well as a actual unit not knowing any better. If fantasy is a numbers game my natural instinct would probably be a failure right? I should look for guys that I think will stuff the stat sheet?

Never underestimate the strength of knowledge.

It's all about individual stats, which is why guys like Harrington are actually good in fantasy. Add up the stats you accumulated and pit them against what your opponent put up. So you would take Lee over just about most power forwards and centers.
So yeah your natural instinct would be wrong, it's all about individual stats. It don't matter how many points Lee gives up because that's not a category. From your getting a center that has excellent FG%, FT%, Assists, Rebounds, Points.
Steals are considered a premium.
Blocks are considered a premium.
Usually most people will draft for categories. I will overlook blocks and FT's in order to get points, rebounds and FG% from my power forwards and centers. To balance that out Id make sure Id get an excellent FT shooter or just lose that category every week to have an advantage in all other categories.
Every year either LeBron or Paul will go first. They simply do a little bit of everything.

Yes'm. It's all stats. You WANT selfish players in fantasy. You used to stay away from Knicks, until Mike 'Antoni arrived in town. But you'd ideally like balance... the famous Curry Stat is because he just gave you two things every night, scoring and FG%. He sucked at most everything else. Despite DH12's FT%, he'll have more value in H2H because you should play up whatever strengths you have there, and mostly disregard your weaknesses (you want better balance in roto). It's tons of fun. I'll hit you up in September, Big Daddy, when our fantasy leagues roll out again.

Sorry, that's not the Eddy Curry line.
http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/nba/news?slug=mb-curryline_0607
The Eddy Curry Line was originally established to put a spotlight on how truly anemic Curry's overall fantasy line is. The standard: a player must average more turnovers than assists, steals, and blocks combined
But everything else you said was on point.

The fun thing about fantasy is that sometimes you'll get really pleasant surprises (Chuck Hayes had 20 steals over the course of the first week and a half of this season) and other times you'll be completely heartbroken (Jose Calderon becoming just a shell of his former dominant fantasy self just one season later).
