With Coach Woodon out, who do you believe should be our next Coach?

Do you think any of our assistants will be back?

The first domino to fall. It depends on who is brought in if any of the asst coaches are brought back. I would say the new coach will clean house and maybe keep one in a minor role.

Who are you guys wanting as your new coach?

Avery Johnson: The Little General
Tom Thibodeau: Defensive genius
Byron Scott
Cheaper Options:
Dwane Casey

Avery Johnson or Mike Fratello ---although I'm not sure that ASG (owner) are willing to dish out the dough.

Tom Thibodeau look like an interesting candidate though. Same with Sam Mitchell.

For some reason, I feel we will end up with Casey soon.
Cheap, previous connection with Sund and player coach. Not a long term solution but the most likely at the moment.

You guys would improve with the exact same team intact as long as you had a discipline based coach, i.e. Avery or Byron Scott. I love competing in the Southeast with you dudes. I hope this offseason bodes well.

I can't see the Hawks going for a short-term coach, that wouldn't make much sense.

Dan Majarle is a sleeper pick according to Adrian Wojo of Yahoo sports.

Wojo says via his twitter:
Hawks aren't planning to spend for coach, sources have insisted all along. Parameters set around 3 years for $1.8 to $2 million per year.

Here's a sleeper for Hawks: Phoenix assistant Dan Majerle, who Rick Sund is impressed with, says a friend of Hawks GM.

Strong candidates for Hawks job will likely include Sam Mitchell, Utah assistant Ty Corbin, and Portland assistant Monty Williams.

Never thought about Dan Majerle. Does anyone know how long he has been an assistant coach?

Dan Majerle

If the ASG looked over his resume he won't be very impressive:
•Phoenix Suns assistant since June 20, 2008
•2008 Summer League Head Coach

Wow. I definitely hope we don't hire one of Sund's "guys".

Tyrone Corbin is my vote, former Hawk in the 90's when we very successful and has to have learned a lot from Sloan over in Utah all these years.

You left out that he also did some broadcasting (which seems to pass for coaching experience these days) and held the Dominique position of public appearance veteran for the front office to show connection to past Suns team.

Yes, I'm not too taken with Thunder Dan's qualifications either.

As for Corbin, I'll bet he knows the pick and roll which is a step up over Woodson already.

It's obvious we're not going to get a big money dream coach. I'm just hopeful that we get a dynamic younger coach that can inspire the team. Someone who's willing to coach effort, make in game adjustments, and has both an offensive and defensive philosophy. I hope we interview quite a few candidates to find who might be the hidden gem rather than just sign a friend of Rick.

In reality we probably will just get whomever Rick Sund feels comfortable with because if the new coach fails then Sund probably gets shown the door as well. That's just how the NBA works.

Corbin's interesting. An all-star forward teaching a forward-rich team? Add in that he's Jerry Sloan's assistant and there's some good to consider.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Are we the only 50 win team that would go with a first year head coach? These situations can be frustrating as a fan and am I suppose to believe our players are going to take to a first year head coach?

Philly is pursuing Doug Collins, Avery Johnson, and Sam Mitchell (PASS!).....What a slap in our face.

Very possible, i for one think this squad would flourish under a moving/cutting fast paced offensive system. Not the moderate/Isolation/run the clock down offenses Woodson had here. It's worth a shot.

Maybe not. It's possible that the financial restraint (or difficulty) is being exaggerated again. Remember, first it was that they would spend to acquire a vet at the trade deadline yet they stepped up for Mike Bibby with a year left on his deal at big dollars. Next it was that we would be outbid for Josh as a restricted free agent. The following year we dealt expiring deals for Jamal Crawford and his large contract. Then it was would we resign our 3 big free agents? Yet each was resigned (maybe we regret that now). The price tags weren't outlandish but the club did what it thought to keep on the path. This summer that might mean spending more on a experienced coach to try to get more out of the team. It could also mean overpaying to keep Joe (I hope not).

Of course veteran coach doesn't necessary mean the right coach, but we can hope.
