Cav's final grades

Post#1 » by Cleveland Fan » Sun May 16, 2010 5:24 pm

Dan Gilbert - B He gave Ferry permision to do want needed to be done to win.
Dan Ferry - B+ He added players to a very good team, results don't seem like it.
Mike Brown - D+ The team played great defense, but his leadership & game adjustments weren't.

LBJ - A Would be A+ but loss to Boston hurt.
Shaq - C+ Did what was asked, but didn't show leadership.(maybe because he thought it was LBJ's team) if so B-.
Mo - B- Better suited for scorer off the bench.
Parker - C+ Good team player but not starting SG.
Jamison - B Still a good scorer but not a big time #2 option.
Andy - B+ Great energy off the bench, great 6th man type(hope he stays in that position).
JJ - B- When Shaq & Z were out he stepped up, will be key rotational player soon.
Delonte - C Played better in 09, not sure what future holds.
Moon - C+ I don't think he was used the right way.
Gibson - C+ When he was needed he played well.
Z - C+ Mostly because he came back, but he wasn't used much in the end.
Jawad - C Not sure where he fits, but I like his size & a very good 12 th man.
Powe - Incomplete
Green - Incomplete
Telfair - Incomplete

As you can tell by my grades I think we need to make a change at head coach.
Even if LeBron returns this team needs a starter or 2. We need a starting C & SG. Would be ok if Shaq comes back but at the right price but we need a starting SG bad.

You giving way too much credit. I guess when there's no pressure everybody performed just fine, then everybody crumbled under the clutch.

Lebron gets a A. The rest of the team gets C+...Except Jamison. He gets a D because he sucks soo bad.

Nicely put Fan. I'd up Gilberts Rating to an A. He has done more than any other owner the Cavs have ever had since Nick Mileti.

How can you give Lebron an A when it was him that gave up in the biggest games of his career? I'm as big a Lebron fan as any, but after game 5, I lost some respect for him. He is the leader, undisputed. When he puts up the kind of performance, and I'm not talking about his numbers, but his play, the rest of his team feeds off of it. He should get a C at best because for all of his brilliance throughout the season, he folded on his team when it counted. And don't give me that "triple double in game 6" excuse either, because it was very close to a quad double- he had 9 turnovers!

Does it make sense to blame the coach for not winning with a team that - according to the original post - did not have starting quality players at center, point guard and shooting guard?

I think that any coach who could lead such a flawed roster to the best record in the NBA has done a heck of a job.

What in game adjustments is Brown supposed to make when his initial game plan - have Lebron handle the ball, have Lebron take the most shots, and have Lebron create for his team mates - does not work? Should Brown have told Mo to take over the ball handling? Have Ilguaskas take more shots? Have Jamison drive to the basket more so that he will collect fouls and get to the line? Have Shaq camp in the lane so Lebron is not tempted to drive and score himself?

Maybe Brown should have benched "Lebron" so the Celtics would have had no idea who was going to be the focal point of the Cavs offense. Yeah, that would've worked. Boy is Brown dum.

Varejao gets an A too. Hes our second best player even though hes like 8th best in talent.

If a guy makes all-NBA 2nd team defense he gets an A.

This team did win over 60 games and earned the #1 overall seed. Even though the season ended way too early, I think some of y'all are being overly critical of the season as a whole.

I downgrade Ferry because he built this team quite specifically to beat last year's Orlando team, not taking into account that the Magic might not be the biggest hurdle. You need to make moves that make other teams react, not vice versa.

Mike Brown deserves a C+. Solid defense, horrid offensive system (plus he lacks the ability to adjust).
Well at least we're not Detroit!
